I was going to go for painting it, but its just, not my thing right now I suppose. I mena, I have the chance and the drive to do it, I just feel like I cant execute it well enough to be proud. Bleh anyway, background practice! I tried to make it less you know, dreary and foggy and more...not foggy lol idk, like make it a place where you would kinda want to explore but then you realize its not such a good idea?

Anyway, critique is very much appreciated!

You know, I've been thinking on what to say about this picture for a long time. This usually means there isn't much to add!

Other than what I said in that note, I think it mainly needs more contrast. It looks somewhat flat; doesn't have any strong blacks or whites. It could epsecially benefit from some harsher highlights. And the shadows cast by trees could be stronger. UNLESS! Unless you wanted a more dreamy atmosphere, in which case this is good, but still, slightly too dreamy.

One other thing is that it doesn't really lead the eye anywhere. Sure, there is a path, but what does it show you? Grass. If there isn't a particular subject in a picture, you need some backstory in it (and not just in the description). That's not really any sort of iron rule, because there are those landscape paintings that old people hang on their walls, and those rarely have any sort of narrative.

You know, just think: why isn't it a good idea to go there? What could you add there, that would make the viewer feel unsafe? Probably some more dense woods and lots of shadow. Or maybe some ominous rock, all in the distance of course, so that you know you're safe where you stand, but not so much deeper into the woods.

Once you have a thing you want the viewer to look at, use light (or shadow) to make them look there. Remember when I've told you about using contrast to make something pop out? It's very important to use contrast to lead the eye. And also to tell how far apart things are. For instance, the trees don't really stand out from the background.

I suppose that's it. One minor thing also: if it's a clover field, you should at least draw a couple of better-defined clovers.  Now also have THIS . I've tried to fix the things mentioned above without actually adding stuff, haha! Sorry, didn't have the time to do anything more fancy.

QUESTIONS?
