[ VERSION ]
- Version 0.9 is a “beta” release of the Satellite.Mß Visual Style for Microsoft® Windows® XP. It is inspired by the appearence of TOSHIBA “Satellite P” Series laptops, featuring a red-purple cover and a satin/brushed interior, as well as a 16:10 LCD.
It currently skins Windows XP, WinAmp, VLC, Firefox and GoogleTalk.
Starting from version 1.0 it will also feature a customized Mozilla Firefox theme, as well as themes/skins for Mozilla Thunderbird, Microsoft® MSN Messenger and maybe Microsoft® Media Player, together with a Bootloader and a LogOn screen.
note: Full-View image above is a 256-colour animated GIF file subject to visual limitations: please cfr. VS preview for a full-screen static evaluation of the Visual Style (1440x900 pixels, 308kB).
Modified versions of %WinDir%\system32\shell32.dll and %WinDir%\system32\EMCRI.DLL (this last one used by TOSHIBA laptops only) will be available starting from version 0.95 to support automatic selection for drive icons on Desktop and "My Computer" window.

[ REQUIREMENTS ]
- Installation of Visual Style(s) needs any version of Windows XP with an updated/patched %WinDir%\system32\UXTHEME.DLL system file (or a visual style modification/visualization software like TGTSoft StyleXP installed).
- Nullsoft WinAmp skin is suited for Classic versions of skins (version 2.x or later).
- VideoLAN VLC skin is suited for its “skin2” engine (version 0.8.x or later), for any Operative Systems.
- Mozilla Firefox skin is suited for version 0.9 to 1.6, for any Operative Systems.
- Google GoogleTalk alternate executable can ONLY be used to replace that of version 1.0.0.92.
In order to easily use all the icons included in the package you should use Tysoft IconPackager™ version 2.50+ by Tysoft or any other icons' manager able to read and use .ICL (Icon Library) and, possibly, .IP (Icon Package theme) files.
[ COMPLETE INSTALLATION ]
- The complete theme (version 0.9) is composed by these parts:
- 1 Visual Style for Windows XP (SatMB.msstyles) providing:
- Brushed style window borders;
- Aqua style TaskBar with Intel® logo;
- Brushed buttons, menus, captions and scrollbars.
- Brushed style window borders;
- SatMB.msstyles Visual Style by default;
- customized icons, color palette and wallpaper.
- system: "My Computer", "Network", "My Documents", "Desktop", etc.;
- drives: FDDs, HDDs, CDs, DVDs, USB/FireWire drives, memory cards, netword drives, etc.;
- folders: standard, "sub-MyDocuments" ones, Control Panel, network ones, etc.;
- quick launch & TaskBar common icons;
- file types: image formats, video formats, audio formats, HTML/CSS/XML/Flash-related files, text/binary files; principal Adobe® CS2, Microsoft® Office®, Wolfram, and COMSOL suites' data files.
- To install it just unzip original ZIP file into %WinDir%\Resources subdirectory and move the .wsz and .vlt files in the aforementioned paths.
To install the complete XP theme or just the Visual Style, double-click on Satellite.Mß.Theme, click “OK” in the Desktop Properties window after checking that the selected Satellite.Mß style/theme is correctly previewed.
You can also set them up using other visual style software (like StyleXP, Styler, etc.). If the theme/style doesn't display or preview properly, then your UXTHEME.DLL system file has not been patched and needs to be.
Satellite.Mß theme also needs several icons all copied into %WinDir%\Resources\Icons subdirectory; those with .ICO extension are automatically used by the theme as system icons ("My Computer" / "Network" / "Documents", etc.).
The other icons (.IP, .ICL and .IPtheme file extensions) can be used with IconPackager by opening Satellite.Mß.IP file.
In this case IconPackager will take care of system and file format icons' substitution automatically. This will greatly enhance the visual appearence of Windowx XP's and its applications'
files.
To install WinAmp skin just copy Satellite.Mß.wsz file into WinAmp's Skins\ subdirectory, run WinAmp, press ALT+S, choose "Satellite.Mß", then press the “Close” Button.
To install VLC skin just copy SatelliteMB.vlt file into VLC skins\ subdirectory. Activate the “skin2” interface engine by either running VLC and selecting it from the menu or launching it from the DOS prompt (from the proper directory path) via command line vlc -I skin2. Finally right-clik anywhere within the Player window (not over buttons or controllers), and choose "SatelliteMB".
To install GoogleTalk red-tinted window captions and icons just replace googletalk.exe in its subdirectory (usually it is %ProgramFiles%\Google\Google Talk\). It ONLY works with GoogleTalk 1.0.0.92 and it is highly recommended to backup the original executable should it not work. Contacts' list will be preserved but GoogleTalk's configuration could restart with default setup because the executable changed without being updated via a Google donwload.
The GoogleTalk executable was reverse-engineered only to provide a slightly skin, more similar to Satellite.Mß. It doesn't alter Google's Copyright license in any way.

p.s.: I'm sure you know, but the visual theme works on any Windows XP: it is not suited for Intel® processors only, it is just graphics.
