Yes, I've played Minecraft.Funny Scenario; I dig deep underground in hopes of finding some Minerals to build Armour and Tools. I came aross some diamonds, I looked behind to see anything was behind me. It was clear. I swinged my pickaxe at it, and obtained Diamonds, After moments of satisfaction, I heard Hissing noises. I turned around and, Hello Creeper that Blew up on my face. Killing me and losing all the items I had with me. This may sound familar to people that played the game, why some who asked? Because it happened to them to.
This is likely what happens to people when finding Diamonds
Creeper Sneaks Behind you and blows up
Creeper Drops down to you and blows up
Zombies gangs rape you to a corner
You dig diamonds only for them to fall into a pit of Lava
You Dig diamonds only to have waters flooding the cave.
You dig Diamonds only to get buried under gravel.
But to me, Creepers were my problems. Mostly.....

I once was in a dungeon and a creeper blew up the Spawner and all the mobs, but left the chests.

Rule #1 in Minecraft: Take care of the danger first and of the treasure later.
Everything in the envoirment is a potential death trap. But you have the ability to change everything the envoirment to your advantage instead.
In this case: First, search the cave you are exploring for Creepers and other monsters. Light out the tunnel you are in so they can't spawn behind you, and block unexplored parts from where they could come.
Lava, water, sand and gravel can be avoided or redirected.

I may be a coward and am not afraid to admit it, but at least the so far four-month, 27-gig project I'm still working on doesn't go up in smoke and giant holes from Creepers, neh?
