It felt as though winter would never end. Riptide stood on a hill overlooking his herd, watching as they nosed through the snow in search of edible grass. His ears flicked back with worry. Neptune, Heleus, and Nixie were huddled up, joking together but Riptide noticed Nixie shiver. He let out a sigh, a puff of air dancing out before his face as he looked up at the cloudy gray sky.

It was then that he heard a strange sound tickle his ears. He let out a light snort of surprise and his ears flicked forward once more, craning his neck behind him as his eyes scanned the area. It almost sounded like a whisper. He didn't see anything...

He trotted towards the whisper until it grew louder and louder, soon the whispering was rushing in his ears like rapids. A quick shake of his mane and when he opened his eyes again a shadowy stallion stood before him. Not necessarily black in color; it was like his shape had no edges... and yet he still took the form of a horse.

“Greetings, my friend. It has been awhile, hasn’t it?” Riptide wasn't sure he had met this creature before, but he was reminded of an adventure Cerulean had gone on the year before, describing a horse much like this one. “Or maybe this is our first time meeting. My memory seems to be failing me as of late, my name is Iefan. I have come to help, and ask for yours in turn, I suspect the Bloody Bachelor has been meddling around with the true nature of things. Spring is long overdue, and the entire valley is suffering. My request is simple- complete a series of tasks for me. With your help, we can work together to end this wretched winter and set things right."

Now this had caught Riptide's interest. Did he really believe in the Bloody Bachelor? He had heard tales of him as a colt but thought him to be not much more than a boogeyman. He was skeptical, but surely if the creature's request was too far fetched he could always decline. "What is your quest?"

“There is a special item that I need in order to help me bring this winter to an end. Please, go out and find some green apples. If you find any extra, you’re welcome to keep it..."

"Green apples?" Riptide chuckled. "That's all?" He rolled his eyes up to the sky, wondering how exactly green apples could help with the weather... But when his eyes returned to the shadow creature, they had disappeared. He blinked in surprised, having not heard them leave. His brows furrowed for a moment but he shrugged and decided searching for some green apples could do no harm.

He returned to the herd only to give Killian orders to watch the herd, and then he was off.

He trotted around for a while, wondering how exactly he was supposed to find apples, an autumn fruit, in the dead of winter. Dead it was, he thought to himself as he looked up at all the bare tree branches around him. Just when he was getting frustrated, there it was. The whispering again. His ears perked forward and he quickened his pace, following the whispers to a gnarled old tree where they instantly stopped. Silence. At the base of a tree was a hole and this hole had a green glow coming from it. Could it be the apples?

He sniffed tentatively at the opening and deciding shoving his nose in there to be too risky, he opted to use a hoof instead. Whatever was in there was certainly stuck...!
