Description A tutorial on making delayed brushes in MyPaint.

One thing I forgot (and will add later) is how to save a brush. Click on the "Edit and save brush" bar at the bottom of the Brush Settings dialog. Then either edit the brush icon and "Save as new" Or simply click "Save Settings" to overwrite the original brush.

These delayed brushes and erasers are very very useful. Or at least I find them so. Hope you find it useful.

I think the next one I do is a modification on one of the decoration brushes from the 08 brush pack using the settings I just outlined to make exclamation word balloons very quickly and easily.

In a fit of boredom today (and the fact that I'm sick *blech*), I discovered MyPaint....definitely gave a lift to an otherwise crummy day. I have so many paint programs, but this one is at the top of my list...Your tutorial is VERY helpful - thanks for putting this up!

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you,

You get the idea. I agree, the only good brush is a delayed brush, at least for drawing lines. This is the one thing that was missing to make Mypaint exactly what I needed. I am going to add a delay to every brush now.

I wish Gimp had delayed brushes and the option to rotate the canvas like Mypaint has.

Welcome It really does help when you're inking, that's for sure.

And Gimp doesn't have canvas rotate, but, the newer versions of Gimp do have delayed brushes.
In the Tool Options for the brush, pencil or airbrush, you will see Dynamics. + the Dynamics and check Smooth Stroke. Move the slider for Weight over to the right to delay the brush. (the Quality slider is for removing pixelation from the line so it's less jagged)

Hope that helps you a bit.

You're very welcome! Always glad to help

I was just experimenting with delays to overcome the limitations of my cheap-o tablet and thought share what I found.

I may try a delayed brush then. Might help with my linart./

I certainly helps mine, that's for sure! I have a crappy old Acecad tablet and it really helps keep my lines from going all over the place. (it's one of the things I love most about MyPaint. It makes up for my tiny tablet and shaky hand)
