Description
This is a pocket Coronet, manufactured in the late 1800,s by T. W. Bacon, London. I rescued it from a scrap pile, and had it repaired to workable condition. (I also had it re-tuned to b flat at the same time) It creates a soft, breathy, romantic sound, and is a bear to control. The title refers to a kind of musical passage, that the instrument is ideally suited for.

A lovely image, Wayne.
It's great that you saved this beautiful instrument. I used to play a Cornet ( and other instruments ) some years ago, so I understand your feelings for this small one. ... but in the photo I find myself searching for the mouthpiece, .... So, is the mouthpiece lost and you have to play it like this or do you have another that matches with this Cornet ?

I was able to find a replacement mouthpiece.Β I just did not include it in the photo.Β Β The horn plays very well, but it is much harder to control than my trumpet, I call it "the horn of retribution".Β It was originaly tuned to "f" but I had it re-tuned to b flat.Β

this is interesting. In many ways.
usually when i like a photo it will get down to the point of me wanting to turn it into a ref for a painting. Now given the fact that i do have the time to turn this into a painting (which i absolutely would love to do) i would of course ask for your permission first (a painting is a time consuming process, i will NOT pick up my pencils/brushes without your previous consent) so...
i will just stop here.
And i will pick it up once you give me the green light.
so for now i will just wait for your reply.Β

As far as I am concerned you can use it for a reference and if you post anything, I would happily addΒ thumb to this image linking to yours.

Lovely composition! And what a wonderful thing to rescue!!!
(Only thing bothering me just a tad is the missing mouth piece - sorry too many years of band practice, lol)

I played from the time I was 14 until I was 55, then I quit for 6 years. Β Last fall I started again. Β When I played before I used a 10 1/2 C mouthpiece. Β It was great for a marching band (I had played in a military band), but I wanted to switch to a larger conccert mputhpiece. Β I had to forget everything in order todo so. Β I am using a 3C now, on my trumpet and flugel horn. Β I still have a long way to go. Β High C is almost impossible and A is still a stretch. Β But maybe if I keep on it will come back with the new mouthpiece and I can play publically again. Β If not... I will just enjoy that I can play.

Marching Band at the beginningΒ along with school orchestra,, and dance band.. went on to do a little Tijuana Brass stuff with a garage band for a few years.....at this stage I would have to start all over.. the lip ain't there anymore...you know how that goes

the one I have can be very difficult to control. I call it "The Horn or Retribution" (That does not go over very well when you say it from the pulpit.)
I also play a Flugel Horn. Now there is a horn with a beautiful sexy sound.
