Description
What intrigued me about this scene was not only the colours of earth and sky, but also the shape of the trees. They remind me of angels.I decided to do a series of images of these trees, so I spoke with the owner to get permission to enter the land. This first image was taken in spring prior to planting. I have taken another as the crop has grown, but I have not processed it yet, and I will do others as crop develops and into harvest and winter. Not sure at this point how they will look, or if I will post them, but that is the plan.

most excellent . Why it works so well - I'm not entirely sure ---stones echo cloud shape ? --pin sharp straight through ? -- extra white cloud ? ?Β

Those mid-field stone piles were common around here until 25-30 years ago when the farmers dug huge holes with bulldozers and buried them.Β Now the landscapers are buying these rocks from folks who have them. Who would've guessed?

All of the stones here were sold when I took the picture.Β They have now been removed, and the trees are gone.

Thanks David.Β I don't think I ever posted the winter scene of these trees.Β I will have to check.Β In any event, the trees are now gone.Β Even when I took the pictures I knew the stone had been sold and was just awaiting pickup.Β I suppose that when they removed the stone, the trees were collateral damage.

yes, it may be too bad... or it may be that every thing is always changing and evolving and that too is good.

Nice color and composition. I'm guessing this is the accumulation from clearing the fields of rocks after heaving up over the winter. I picked many rocks from my grandparents farm in Minnesota and hauled them to similar looking piles.

Yes, you are right, just rocks taken from the field... some of those guys are very large.

thanks Jon,
I processed another last night, but I am not sure if I will post it. There is nothing wrong with it, just not exactly what I want. I need to get back and have another look, maybe late today.

Notices come out in the new year. Anything submitted has to be new and within the year...(eg. April 2010 to March 2011) so you can't submit anything that is old. If you contact your local art gallery they will have the info and will send it out to you.

I THINK that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the sweet earth's flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
Joyce Kilmer. 1886β1918
hardly original.. but I can't think of a more appropriate comment
Love the brilliant blue and white contrast of the sky and puffy clouds.. like a child's palette...

lol....
I don't get poems very often, and I have not heard this one on many years. Thank you, it is a wonderful gift.
That blue has to be my favourite colour. I remember as a kid lying on the ground and looking up until I fell into the sky. (Guess that's not really possible, but that's how it felt).

.. fell into the sky!... EXACTLY!!!
Thanks for reminding me.. I loved that feeling!! So sad now that I haven't had a chance to that in AGES!! And my kids hardly have that chance..
Note to self.. must do it when we're on vacation next!

Those stones are sort of on a ridgeline, aren't they? The trees are behind them, growing on a lower part of the backslope? I really love the stones, so varied in color and size, and the clouds are beautiful, too. Think of all the work it was for people, over time, to move those rocks out of the field and stack them all in one place, out of the way of plow and cultivator! Wow!
