Last year there was an exhibition about Australia in Leiden. That is where I took this picture of the clothes of Daisy Bates. I was very impressed by what she did for the aborigins.
The exhibition was very interesting!

Indeed!!! Thanks, it looked so nice at the exhibition! She was a wonderful woman!!! And in those days!!! I googled her name, and there has been another Daisy Bates!!! In America, and she was doing wonderful things for black people in America! It's the name, I suppose!!!! Such a coincidence!!

myrnajacobs In reply to webworm [2006-03-04 16:55:51 +0000 UTC]

That is very strange. Don't suppose it was the same Daisy Bates? What a coincidence if not!

It indeed is strange! No it's not, because the Irish Daisy Bates has never been in the states!!
Did you Google the name? I think its a coincidence!!!!

Last week I've been to an Exhibition about Australia. And the aborigines were part of it.
Daisy Bates was whearing these clothes (on the picture) from 1905 until she died in 1951!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the info. Now I know why the name sounded familiar.

The same clothes for over 45 years? Could a woman do that?

She loved those clothes, the were very classical. She washed them each day. Indeed, unbelievable!!!
Looking up the information on the internet I found another Daisy Bates too!!! An American lady who helped black people who needed her help!!! So, it's in the name!!!

Irena-N-Photography In reply to webworm [2006-03-03 18:12:05 +0000 UTC]

I guess she wouldn't be able to that today. Most clothes would turn to shreds after few months of every day washing.

Two Daises? Wow, what a coincidence. Now I would have to google the name to see it.

Thanks.
