Cool Base Of Skro. What program did you use to construct this art Piece?

Would you mind explaining to me your work flow on such a piece? If you don't mind. I'm trying to improve on my 2d concepts but I still have a bit of trouble sometimes.

One building at a time. I did it in illustrator do the concept art was the bottom reference layer. Then I used the pen tool to do the outlines making sure to connect them. Once all outlines were done I'd pick a different color and draw in lines for shading. Select all the lines and paste them on a lower layer and hide the top ones for simplicity. Select all and convert to live paint. Then you can color pick and use the paint bucket to fill in all the colors. Select all and make the outlines have no color (because you don't need two sets).show your lines layer and ditch the ones you used for shading areas. You can select one and use the menu select-> same -> stroke and fill or something like that and all those lines you made a color like the one you get grabbed get selected. Then delete. Pretty simple once you get the hang of it. Once I did snark all pretty (you may notice one of the buildings is duplicated!) you can save it as another file and to do the devastated one I just went in on top of each of the building sets with the paintbrush tool and started drawing in cracks and things. Learn the pathfinder tools. They let you draw a basic missing shape over an existing one with, say, the pencil tool and remove it with one button. The devastated stuff was a lot of fun. I may do a small tutorial on this at some point. Heh.
