Chapter 7: Seriously, What do you see in that Guy?

“I’m sorry they made you wait outside,” Jessica said.

“Puh-puh-puh-lease! It’s not so bad,” Roger said, playing a tune. Due to the fact that non-employee toons were not allowed, Roger was only allowed to go inside during closing hours even with the visitor’s pass.

“I would have let you into my dressing room if I have known,” Jessica began to play second beside him.

Roger shrugs, waving his rabbit ears off her concern, “I don’t mind going early because you always perform.”

She turns him, amused. “Roger, how can you even watch me perform?” He can be quite silly sometimes.

The rabbit grins. “You forgot, I got these,” he said. He stands up, grabbing his ears and extending them to full length. “I can hear just as good as if I’m in front of the stage.” He closes his eyes, remembering one of her songs. “Then I can see it inside my head, watching you sing.,” he said. “For me, it’s more than enough”. He smiles with his eyes close still, as though the memory of her singing is already bliss.

Oh Roger. Jessica feels herself smile, her purple gloved hand reaching out to ruffle his red hair. She feels him press his head even more against her hand before one floppy foot reactively thumps on the stool, making her chuckle.

Roger drowsily opens his eyes to her, making her heart run faster. Her hand slowly smooths down his soft furry cheek to cup his chin, making his whiskers twitch when he felt her graze them.

From far, far away, Roger felt his feet move him forward. He’s lost to that smile, to that eyes that seems so tender. If a meteor would fall right now, he wouldn’t even flinch.

Subconsciously, she leans closer. She has been this close to him before. The first time, he had tried to put as much space between them as possible. The second time, he has ingeniously acted infatuated. Now this, a gaze so rare from what she was always given, that it held her awed for a moment. Is this…

A growl-grunt ensued from inside the room and Jessica retracted her hand quickly before squishing the urge to hurl the piano to the intruder.

They both look to the source of the sound, the moment forgotten, to see the gorilla guard standing on the doorway. The gorilla grunts and jerks his thumb outside. He steps aside on the frame, giving them a look that says “get out”.

XOXOXOXOXO

The entrance/exit door slams behind the two as soon as they step outside. They cast each other a sidelong glance before looking away, the tension thick. Jessica looks stoically ahead while Roger rubs his arm. They continue to walk on the alleyway, refusing to meet each other’s gaze that seem to land on each other again after turning away. When they reach her car, it was Roger who spoke first.

“Jessica,” she turns to look at him and Roger was easily at loss of words, feeling himself melt a little. “I…”

He looks up to her from below, their contrasting height, what they are- reminding him that she’s out of his league in more ways than one. “I…”

Jessica stays silent, watching him. Watching this stuttering rabbit with a lisp and baggy overalls.  This optimistic, clumsy, silly rabbit who truly believes in life with laughter. This person who believes in her that meant the whole world.

This person who is now looking at her like she meant the whole world.

Roger looks at his front in surprise where a pair of purple gloves has him grabbed. A yelp escapes him as he felt himself yank into the hood of the car.

His hands land on her shoulders as he looks at her with her hands still coiled on his overalls. “Jessica, I just want you to know you’re way beyond me in every aspect of the word, you have no idea how hard this is for me, you’re a really amazing person- talent, beauty, brains you got it all and when I got to know you better, I can’t help but like you more and more but when you kissed me in the forehead back there something happened that I think the back of my mind already knew a long time ago but… but if I got that all wrong”  he gulps, willing himself not to look away in fear, his cotton tail quivering with tension, “Then puh-puh-puh-lease tell me what you really feel so that I can get over it! ”

Jessica raises her brow. “You done?”

Roger thought for a while, distracted. “Yeah, I think s-” before Jessica tugs him forward and kisses him full in the mouth. He stiffens momentarily before his arms wrap around her and started kissing her back, his rabbit ears wrapping around her head deeper into the kiss.

It’s true. Roger’s way better lover than a driver.

The car named Benny roars down the road. The Detective Eddie Valiant sits on the driver seat as she told him everything she knows. The whole thing has become one big mess- seduction, deception and murder with Roger getting deeper and deeper into trouble every time she tries to protect him.

“So where to? My meter’s running!” Benny said.

Jessica puts a hand to her head, thinking, wondering what could have happened to him. “I have to find my darling husband; I’m so worried about him.”

Eddie looks at her, frankly confused, “Seriously, what do you see in that guy?”

She turns to look at him, her face once again a cold wall. A million memories flash, the times they shared, the times she thought of him, the tears, the laughter, their friendship, their love and finally back into the props room with an ice queen of a singer and a silly rabbit who melted her ice.

“He makes me laugh,” she said before turning away and ignoring the surprised look on his face.

THE END.

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it I'm a big fan of the movie too. I can hardly remember it as a kid but after watching it last year, I was blown! When I watched the making of the movie, I was blown harder. Gosh they really knocked themselves out making the live action. That is totally Disney

Oh and I've seen your post in your profile on DC Marvel comparative analysis. What do you think about independent artists who are becoming successful because of their webcomics?

I think it's a good thing. I'm actually hoping to start my own comic series in a few years or so. It's a real good chance for people to stretch their artistic side.

I grew up watching the movie and people always said I am just like Roger, so I find it relatable. It's such a classic! Go Zemeckis!!

I love webcomics and the idea of building an audience first to create demand and a ready market is ingenious. But not as ingenious as the stories and style they tell.

Hey, I hope I'll be able to read yours someday. Perhaps, I'll see it here in DA. A lot of webcomic artists have DA accounts so I'll probably stumble on yours.

What the heck, I don't pay attention to my DeviantWatch anymore but following you is the best choice to find it out the earliest

I actually don't do much here, besides looking up art and possible bits of interesting fiction. Perhaps I should start posting more here. It just depends. I mostly do stuff on Facebook.

I actually got teary-eyed over this chapter. SEE, this fanfic  illustrates why I love them both so so much. People tend to judge them both by surface value. Roger, the idiot rabbit. Jessica, the hot seductress bad girl. But that's not who they are. That's just how the world perceives them. And maybe, MAYBE they started that way at some point-- however toons are actually created. But that's the thing about art, it takes a life of its own. It evolves beyond the intent. And they were just lucky to find another person that was willing to looking beyond the looking-glass. Their characters are important, and their love is important.

Wow, thank you. What you've said about art evolving beyond its intent had struck me.

Thanks also for the review. It had been my first WFRR fic and not as good as the ones I made later on here in DA or in fanfiction.net. I never had the time to edit it but I'm glad it is still enjoyed.

Their relationship was what caught my eye and inspired the story. It's about friendship, acceptance and seeing-beyond-the-surface.

The first chapter, I have to admit, made me laugh out loud while I was wondering how they would meet. That's just how I imagined them after watching the movie several times.

Was WFRR an old fave of yours, or was it also some sort of rediscovered childhood like what happened to me?

Oh, it was an old favorite of mine. i make it a habit to watch every few months-- it's in my collection of feel good movies, like Batman Returns, ANIMATED Alice in Wonderland, Nightmare Before Christmas, and so on. BUT, I have been in a very WFRR mood lately. Mostly because I recently discovered that the movie was based off of a book and then I found the author wrote a few Roger Rabbit stories. (Spoiler alert-- Movie is better than the book.) It was being outraged with the books and how they portrayed Jessica and Roger's relationship that has been making me cling onto the movie more and been making me feel like drawing and looking up stuff of these two. It was by this way that I stumbled upon your story-- and I must say i am very glad I did. Your fanfic was better than what was professionally sold and I had to pay money for. And left me feeling way happier, as well.

Also, have to say... i really enjoyed the hostility from Jessica in the first chapter. And I know we're supposed to go BEYOND potty humor by some point... but dammit, i laughed at the whoopie cushion gag. Mostly because I could see it happening in a cartoon. And I loved how the joke was even able to get through to Jessica and help break the tension. It was a wonderfully written scene.

Naaaah. you don't have to. It's all good. Just do what you want, bro, and don't feel obligated.

OH!, while I have you here, i DO want to let you know i started a piece of fanart for your fic. I'll have to finish it later: 38.media.tumblr.com/f77caf97a0…

I'd be honored if you did! Right now i think it may take a while because i am trying to find a way to paint the car and make it look as real as I can-- rather than cartoony. BUT, realism ain't my thing. BUT! I'll figure something out.

Yeah, I had been trying to think what scene I wanted to draw from the fic... But the kiss from the car scene always stood out to me. Just something about how sweet and nervous Roger was, and then how Jessica pulls him by his jumper straps into a kiss! just... It was adorable.

Actually, that scene happened outside the car with Roger standing on top of the hood -BUT I don't care! Yours was just intense! I literally felt myself blush    when I saw it because even if it was just a draft, I can see the passion portrayed between the two! Keep it up!

Was it? Damn, that would have saved me so much time on the research on what the inside of Jessica's car looked like. LOL. Oh well. ((Great, now I want to reread the chapter to see how I misinterpreted the scene.))

BUT YES! I actually started inking and coloring last night before heading for bed, so hopefully i should have this thing finished today. Hopefully. Fingers crossed, and all that jazz.

I love nightmare before christmas. rewatched it a couple of times already and even watched the ps game in youtube. it was unique in incorporating disney-esque songs (recycled though they maybe from the movie) in the game.

batman returns, haven't seen that movie for years but I loved the catwoman in there better than how she was ever portrayed in the later movies.

Yup, I've read the Who Censored Roger Rabbit. It was gripping but I hate how the author (my friend and I suspected he's some kind of a chauvanist) portrayed Jessica and her relationship with Roger. It bothered me so much, the movie that I loved coming from something like that, I wrote a fanfic too where Roger met Roger.

I never bothered to read the two sequels since I got the impression wolf made Jessica into some kind of a flirt. I like the Jessica more in the movie where she's more than it meets the eye.

"Your fanfic was better than what was professionally sold and I had to pay money for. And left me feeling way happier, as well."

I'm glad to hear that Somebody had convinced me to spread joy and laughter in the cyberworld where people can connect anywhere from different parts of the globe.

Thanks again for the review

thank you. If you want more WFRR, check the fanfiction.net. I'm always surprise to find other WFRR fans. The movie is somewhat a forgotten classic.

This (chapter) was simply touching!

You and I both think alike, we think that Roger and Jessica are a great couple and were simply meant to be. Their love and their relationship is the prime example of what true love is all about. I hug my pillow whenever I'm in bed and think about this happy, happy couple all the time.
