Description ....I cannot lie, I seriously do adore Rarijack. It's my terrible guilty pleasure, even guiltier than my cornball daytime soap opera I never, ever miss. What started as a simple fascination courtesy of an unassuming fanfiction I happened to read when I first joined the pony community, ended up snowballing to the point that I have now become a ridiculous sappy-shippy fangirl. I had never "shipped" anything in my 30 years before ponies either, so the irony that a largely male fanbase of a little girl's cartoon has resulted in my developing such a pathetic addiction has not been lost on me, believe me.

But in any case, yes, do have some adorable ponies, and even if we shall only imagine them enjoying a nice day together in an entirely platonic fashion (it's possible if you squint enough). Just lookit them, they're so darling~!

It was incredibly adorable, I have to agree, whether or not there was any underlying meaning intended by the writers! It's little details like that which really make me love the show even more, and in this case yes, probably fueled my enthusiasm for Rarijack even more~ ^.^;

And haha thank you, I'm glad you like their legs because honestly, I think Rarity's pose is probably my favorite of all I've ever done in my pony-pictures to date (I find it amusing when I look at it now, and yet I think it works well too). The comments truly are appreciated!

I agree with your views on this, I never shipped anything before ponies either, then I turn into a huge shipper but only with ponies, confound them they drive me to cuteness.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WhiteDiamondsLtd In reply to Ragnarokia [2012-05-04 01:16:15 +0000 UTC]

Isn't it absolutely bizarre how that apparently works? Cartoon ponies, of all things. But maybe you're right in that the sheer cuteness is what makes shipping them appealing... that at least would make some sense I suppose.

Adorable ponies!

Ragnarokia In reply to WhiteDiamondsLtd [2012-05-04 02:25:48 +0000 UTC]

Indeed, I always figured fanfiction and fanart to be a bit weird, I never was against it, but at the same time I never did it myself either, even when I was a deep fan of some things. But then during the gap between series, I just ended up looking at fanfiction etc. and eventually got into it myself and began writing loads and trying to draw occasionally to. Counfound ponies for their over cuteness.

I personally see ponies as sort of "perfect" characters, when it comes to writing about humans etc. there are all the human problems of people cheating on others and devorcing etc. but it's so very hard to think of such things with ponies, I find romance between them to be the perfect characters for romance, a world where everything is nice, even if bad things happen in the end of the day unless wanting to move a relationship down a dark way you can always imagine them lasting forever in peace. It makes writing / reading them so sweet and warming.

WhiteDiamondsLtd In reply to Ragnarokia [2012-05-04 02:53:42 +0000 UTC]

I also prefer cute fluff in my shipping the vast majority of the time... I know it's not realistic, but being something (or okay, very much) of a hopeless romantic myself I like to think that perfect relationships can exist, and I agree with you that ponies in particular seem conducive to imagining such things. Ponies are, for the most part, a delightful escape for me and a fun hobby that I enjoy partaking in in my limited free time, and so I prefer to keep them on the cute, sweet, and fun side, and I guess the fluffy shipping goes along with that.

But yes, it really is strange that, after all of these years, it took something like a cute cartoon to get me interested in the concept. The power of ponies; they compel all kinds of people do so all sorts of strange things!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ragnarokia In reply to WhiteDiamondsLtd [2012-05-04 03:09:03 +0000 UTC]

I am also like that, I am the hopeless romantic kind myself which makes me love the pony shipping even more so. I sometimes delve into the darker side, but in the most cases I stick to the happy stuff and much prefer it also. Seeing ponies kissing or hugging or sleeping together in the cute catlike way etc. is all really adorable.

It is strange indeed, I myself thought long ago of writing stories but never did get into it, but now it's become one of my main hobbies and indeed become something I hope to be able to continue into publishing etc. in the future. Ponies not only brought me into enjoying myself a lot more and being happier, but also even gave me a way to head into for life, confound their brilliance.

I have to admit, I generally don't think of Ya.O.I. or Yuri pairings unless they're really blatant, like Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune (actually never mind, for most pairings I follow or nod to they've had at least one charater blatantly shown to be in love with the other, same gender or otherwise) nor do I usually think of pairing characters that tend to argue. Saying that it's still a lot of fun to watch these two play off each other and your works are always lovely (and make me wonder if one is the only one that can push the other to try things outside of their usual comfort zone and vice versa, possibly because they know that there's no point in trying to fight it since both of them can be stubborn in their own way)

But since you're a fan of them as a couple, have you ever heard of a film called "Ico The Brave Horse"? One of my friends introduced me to it a few months ago, it was made a while ago and is from Argentina (though neither of us know anyone from there or how to speak Argentinan Spanish so knowledge of the language or culture isn't needed to enjoy it) and has two very....familiar looking protagonists: [link]

(Very impressive Argentina, few countries would use the clarvoyants of their population to put together and animation team)

WhiteDiamondsLtd In reply to Poppun [2012-04-25 05:07:13 +0000 UTC]

Oh my goodness no, I have never seen or heard of that film before but it was absolutely adorable, thank you so much for sharing that with me! And, you're right and it really did bear an almost uncanny resemblance to my two favorite ponies; what a bizarre coincidence!

As much as I enjoy the Rarijack pairing, I also love these two just as friends, and enjoy watching them argue because I find it extremely entertaining. I think I like the ship because I personally feel they have enough in common to build something off of, and yet are so different that it keeps things interesting and frequently, very funny! But of course, those are only my own feelings and I don't expect that everyone else will share them.

Whatever the case though I truly do appreciate the kind words and as I said, the cute link. Thank you! ^^

Poppun In reply to WhiteDiamondsLtd [2012-04-27 07:16:50 +0000 UTC]

I know! (-^u^-) When my friend first showed it to me I was surprised that she hadn't noticed (especially since she was the one that introduced me to the current series)

And argueing friends are always fun to watch (^U^). I know one game that said it best "Their friendship has been restored (which means it's probably safe to guess that they'll argue about something again)". Even things like their little moment during the finale when Applejack checks that Rarity isn't looking before slipping her hat on (which is even more funny if you've read the fan fiction "Twilight Sparkle VS Bridezilla" when they have a debate about whether Lyra counts as the Groom and whether or not one can wear a western het to her own wedding)

I just tend to be overly cautious about pairing (When I "ship" I use liberal amounts of tape and bubble wrap, hee-hee). Though in all fairness, I've always considered love and friendship fairly similar. So in my opinion the main difference between shipping and friend-shipping is that the former allows the characters to kiss more parts of the other's face and sees them blushing more than the latter

And as usual you're very welcome (-^u^-)

WhiteDiamondsLtd In reply to Poppun [2012-05-11 06:32:07 +0000 UTC]

Oh dear late reply is exceptionally late I'm afraid, so my apologies for that! But I did want to say that I wholeheartedly agree with the idea of love and friendship being very closely related to one another, and "Twilight Sparkle VS Bridezilla", hah! I have read that fanfiction before, and though it was such a short little silly oneshot it's probably one of my favorites... the humor was just right up my alley it seems.

And oh, d'aww, how cute is that about shipping versus friendshipping~! The fact that I'm an admitted hopeless romantic probably has a lot to do with my enthusiasm, I imagine.

(Nee~ I had a minor panic moment when your reply disappeared in my inbox, usually that only happens when an image has been deleted or put in storage)

Either way, not to worry, late replies happen to the best of us.

It is a fun story, isn't it? I've read it several times (^u^). Have you by any chance read "Apple Whine"? It has a similar brand of humour and an impressive battle of....will (though the final line is a bit strange, but I suppose it shouldn't really be a surprise given that the final line belongs to Pinkie Pie)....(Goodness, I read a good deal of fan literature, another wonderful, though under-appreciated story is the three part "A Nightmare To Remember", though it's more of a "Journey to the center of the mind and back" than anything else)

Well thank you (^u^), it's always wonderful to find someone who shares your opinion on the topic (especially in the modern age when so few people seem to realise that any long term relationship needs a stronger foundation than a chemical reaction), or a fellow "Plush" Romantic (that is, someone who appreciates gentle, soft and warm shipping)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WhiteDiamondsLtd In reply to Poppun [2012-05-26 07:14:45 +0000 UTC]

Well regrettably late replies seem to happen to me an awful lot, but I appreciate the fact that you don't begrudge me for them, anyway, thank you!

I had to look up "Apple Whine" after you mentioned it (one of the reasons that my reply is so belated; I unfortunately don't always have time for much fanfiction reading!), and agree that yes, it really was highly entertaining! A nice short story that provided an amusing take on the ponies and their relationships with one another. I still haven't had a chance to read the other story, but hopefully I'll be able to do that in the future... we seem to have a lot of the same taste in fanfiction.

And 'plush romantic', eee! That's adorable and I absolutely love it, and likely will be using the term in the future. I'm all about that really, and if I'm being perfectly honest I have a very hard time even considering dating somebody if we're not already friends first. Not like casual dating but you know, real relationships... that kind of compatibility is crucially important, I think. <3

As I said, not to worry professional life has a bad habit of getting in the way of personal life (Anyone who has seen Sweet and Elite knows what that can do)

It is, isn't it? I especially enjoyed some of the reactions they had to the others' arguements. But knowing that you don't always have a lot of time for reading makes me feel a tad guilty for mentioning this, but since we're on the topic of fanfiction I've just finished "The Jewel of Reinsburg" on FIM fiction.net and I think that it is definately your cup of tea.

Oh! Thank you! I know that a number of my friends and family would probably shake their heads at the analogy (or rather the girl making it; my vast collection of adorable paraphanelia has become my claim to fame....or infamy). But I agree whole heartedly, especially considering that people are often on their best behaviour when dating and can easily give a false impression, when you're already friends it's a bit too late for that . It's certainly worked for my parents anyway, though I confess I've yet to have a case where my feelings were reciprocated (The third and most recent instance was actually how I started watching Friendship Is Magic in the first place)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WhiteDiamondsLtd In reply to Poppun [2012-06-04 21:04:02 +0000 UTC]

Oh yes, "The Jewel of Reinsburg"! I've gotten to know the author of that story well enough in his short time on deviantART, and though I haven't had the chance to read the story yet (it's quite long, I understand) it is certainly on my list. I very much appreciate the recommendation anyway, thank you for that!

Well, I think we all can relate to that to at least some extent, unfortunately. But still I must agree with the idea of a real, meaningful relationship being far more than mere physical attraction... the ability to be completely open and honest with one another is absolutely crucial in my opinion. And I like to think that if a friendship is strong enough, it can survive anything.

Well, I can definitely sympathise. Before MLP, I didn't ship anything, ever, and looked upon the whole shipping phenomenom with a perplexed amusement. Nowadays, I'm a fanatic PinkieDasher who uses terms like "OTP" unironically and is overjoyed when the two of them even do as little as look at eachother.

It's so funny how that works isn't it? Or pathetic, some would probably say. But yes, you have basically described me perfectly as well (I really make an effort not to read too much into minor interactions though, but sometimes I can't help myself it seems)... at least it's nice to know I'm not the only one!

FreezingShock In reply to WhiteDiamondsLtd [2012-04-23 18:39:31 +0000 UTC]

You're entirely right in trying not to read into the little things too much. For example, I was rather embarassingly vocal about my annoyance with that little, entirely innocent photograph of Soarin' and Dash dancing together in the last minute of the latest episode So perhaps showing a bit more restraint in the future will stop me from making such a fool of myself.

Nothing wrong with making a slight fool of yourself, it beats being a jerk, but yea I didn't much care for the Soarin Dash picture in the finale, I actually kinda like the idea of Soarin and Spitefire being an item

In my case, it's more like not allowing myself to get too worked up about a moment that I know is nothing more than friendshippy in nature, though I do enjoy that very much as well. It is a show about friendship after all, and even if imagining more can sometimes be a great deal of fun~ ^.^
