Design is about communicate a message, but a message that make good to society and communities.

This horrible piece of work is so misleading. How "pray" is going to do any actual good? Is this an advertising to invite people to aid Japan or an advertising for Christian church?

A message must be clear and neutral, especially for this kind of sensitive situations.

Who ever did this, is not a designer and obviously is lacking the ability to do so.

PRAY and DO GOOD

This is for everyone to read!

"4 What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions?
...18 Now someone may argue, β€œSome people have faith; others have good deeds.” But I say, β€œHow can you show me your faith if you don’t have good deeds? I will show you my faith by my good deeds.”
...26 Just as the body is dead without breath, so also faith is dead without good works."

James 2:4,18,and26.

All I see here is a lot of condemnation against everyone!!! Fellow Christians you should pray and do what good you can.

To all the atheists that are complaining. Read the entire comment.

OOH I'M AN ATHEIST THAT MEANS I'M SMART
BULLSHIT. There are other ways to be smart. Internet Atheists seem to be some of the most arrogant people that I've ever encountered.

"I'm so sick of "pray for Japan."
WELL, I'M SICK OF YOUR WHINING.
DAMN IT.

The point is, what we should be discussing on this page is how we can help Japan, not arguing the existence of God and telling each other that what we decide to do is useless. You have no respect for other people's beliefs, and that is why I am writing this.

Not all atheists are like this. In fact, I have many atheist friends who respect what I believe and treat me equally and kindly. Why can't you idiots behave like them?

I'm sick of the "pray for ____" not because I'm an atheist (which I am), but because, in reality, you need to do something to actually help the people affected by it. Sitting there and praying isn't going to do the same as, say, donating for example.

KawaiiKaabii In reply to Hornstrkier [2011-09-16 13:21:14 +0000 UTC]

I know this is quite old but I agree with you and I'm not even an atheist. "PRAY FOR JAPAN GAIZ!" is sooooo annoying. That's like saying "I'm not gonna study for my test tomorrow anyway God will do everything lololololol". Those Christians are sooooo lazy. -_-

TheSciFiProject In reply to Hornstrkier [2011-09-01 22:05:07 +0000 UTC]

Did you read my other comment? I was also encouraging my fellow Christians to do more than pray and not get butthurt when Atheists complain about it. I'm not going to get in a debate, so please don't respond to this again unless you're talking about something else. And before you accuse me or insult my intelligence, I happen to make many donations to causes like this.

To be honest, I don't even remember this comment.

Why create a site? Sorry, I know this is old but seriously? The entire f*cking world knows and it is barely an absolute complete disaster. The Japanese can handle themselves, we all know that. It isn't totally destroyed. No one ever did this for Haiti.

beautiful artwork! and good luck to japan!
and for those bashing this artwork? it's not commanding you to just pray and do nothing else. it's reminding you to keep japan in your thoughts or prayers. it's already implied that you support it financially too. i pray for AND donate money to japan, what's wrong with that?

This is a great advertisement for awareness, a reminder that Japan is going through a tough time right now and will be for many months and years. I have lived in Japan and have many friends over there. And contrary to belief, one thing most of those non-religious Japanese friends of mine have said right after the disaster is: Pray for us.

Keep them in your thoughts. Pray, think, love, support, and do. I can't stress the importance of financial aid enough, but I also can't stress enough how ultimately little money can fix. They're going to need love and support for years to come, because a lot of the damage is what money just can't fix. Some love from the bottom of your heart will mean a lot to those who are suffering.

Thanks for showing your support in whatever ways you can.

So sick of "pray for ___" everywhere. Praying doesn't do a single damn thing. Do you honestly believe that, if everyone all over the world prayed for something to happen, it would? Sorry to break it to you, but that's not how the world works.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KirbyAirRider In reply to LittleFlutterby [2011-09-26 16:29:15 +0000 UTC]

Agree. Usually I don't care what someone prays for because a cause might be insignificant, like praying for a dog to survive or something, but when it comes to a true disaster, praying is an insult to me if used alone as their way of helping. To me, its a way of saying, "I can't think for myself, so I'll just hope everything will be ok by praying". If praying is working, I'm concerned if they are for a good cause, because the disaster is still getting far worse.

To the artist: it is a good piece. Thankyou for your efforts/concern.

I dont see why praying for a country would help. They're actually buddhist and shintoists. They dont need christian prayers, protestant prayers, they need houses, money help. They need that our countries dont close the doors for their products with an exaggerated fear of radiation. They need smart responses, not prayers. If you really really care about helping, quit praying and start working on how can you to do something besides sit on deviantart and harvest popularity from this sick slogan over-exposed in social medias.

We need to quit this passive spirituality and start a functional spirituality, putting our beliefs in the matter world. Remember, Gandhi didn't stood at his home praying, but he stood up and did something with his own hands.

Thats just my point.

Doctor-Jaevel [2011-04-11 06:35:29 +0000 UTC]

I'm sorry, but this is so useless. Praying for Japan won't do anything. Instead of using your design to tell people to sit around and mumble at the sky, why not use it to advertise a site where you can go to make actual donations to emergency relief funds for this terribly stricken country.
Making a pretty poster with an empty message accomplishes nothing. If you want to actually help, I'd suggest going to sites like this: [link] and giving some money to these people who need it so desperately. I'm not sure how much good our prayers are doing them.
