this is really fantastic, to have the ouroboros and the butterflyin combination like this. The butterfly in this instance, I believe, is symblic of Christ. I have researched quite a bit of the symbolism as I have found buterflies in the church architecture where I am. Do you happen to know if you have any of St. Agatha? She is the one whose breasts are cut off? Fantastic gallery you have here; I am very partial to old stonework like this.

wow!
I never bothered with the symbolism... well I should on day.
I never happened to come around a St. Agatha yet. I come from a protestantic environment.
But when I find one I'm going to let you know.

Thank you!
I took it on a graveyard in Bremerhaven, Germany.
Some of my other pics are from the same one, like "Shadowplay" for instance.

The snake Ouroboros? Never heard of it... So it is a special form of a snake and has an own meaning? Could you please tell me?
Now to the butterfly: I heard that it can stand for purity and life.

if i remember correctly the snake that eat is own tail (the Ouroboros) was a representation of the continuity of destruction and creation of the universes... if i'm wrong or u want to know something else just give me a day and i'll check on my books

Thanx.
The only snake I knew up 'til now, which eats it's own tail was out of a children's book called "The snake which was always hungry". *g*

I don't know for sure.
But I think I remember that snakes can stand for death and sin and butterflies for purity and life.
