Description
A map of the world for a new series of stories I plan to write. It will be based in the future around the year 2078 where the world has united behind larger nations due to a shortage in resources and the ever growing space race to the stars.Related content

I'm planning on making a science fiction novel on the year 2078.

As a fellow fan of map making and future history, I'll let you know what I think.
I find that you're going to need to explain the continued existence of the USSR, I'm assuming you're doing an alternate history.
You might want to detail the exact route of history in this story, that makes it a lot easier to understand why the map looks that way.
Also, if there is a resource shortage (coincidently I'm making a storyin 2078 about a war over Resources... then again, I'm obsessed with 2078. it's my favorite year everrrrr. :3) then you have to take into account that there will be wars. Unions. All sorts of things. Take into perspective climate change and the likes. Overpopulation. Terrorism. Bioterrorism.

Well I based the map off of a few things. The reason I donβt have an exact route yet is because the story is still in the first few chapters and not to the point where it can explain everything as of yet. But the premise behind it is that the USSR is still around and the Cold war is still going on because of a new space race that emerged from a discovery of extra terrestrial technology in the form of several space craft that crashed to the earth in different locations, giving the nations and peoples of the earth a leg up on technology, allowing them to reverse engineer and apply human technology to fleets of interstellar ships that began colonizing and mining in the surrounding planets in the solar system.
The two major powers in this are the USSR and the USA however all of the other nations that are shown in bright colors are Space powers as well. As you can see many nations have also banded together (US and Canada due to their close relations and boarder) (The EU do to their agreement so that they can be a stronger force united against the USSR which has crept in from the east) (and Gold Pact, which is a group of South American nations who are trying to curtail the United States' influence on the region.)
The USSR is the size it is due to many different deviations in the timeline. Warsaw pact nations merged to make a more united Government with the USSR, allowing the motherland to exert more control on the allocation of resources and to allow for more standardized practices. Although it doesnβt show on the map (I plan to change it) Korea is still split with the US governing the south and the USSR the north. Notice Red china does not exist. This due to the United States and Europe getting more involved in aiding the Republic of China in stopping the Revolution there. Therefore since Red China never came into being there was no Korean war, and no war in Vietnam, allowing for the French to hold onto their territories there and thus most of the independence movements in Africa never took place, so the EU exerts much control there.
As far as wars, there was a major conflict between the USSR and the Republic of China when the Soviets invaded south fighting the Americans, EU and the Chinese. This conflict however ended quickly, but the UN in all its grace decided to allow the USSR to maintain control of the territory it had conquered.
Thus the world is as it is, and the main conflict now is in the stars as the major Space Powers fight for colonization rights of the planets in the solar system in beyond. The UN manages this by committee which consists of all of the Major Space Powers (There are three voting blocs- Soviet and India- USA, EU, Australia- And then the non-aligned nations who claim to not be loyal to either of the two big voting blocs: Brazil, Peronist Argentina, Middle Eastern Union, China, Japan, and Gold Pact) and Switzerland is also on the committee (which is the tie breaker when needed)
Thanks for the help though I really want to hear what you think of this so I can make changes if needed!

Hmmm... well, the alternate historical stuff seems sound to me, within the realm of possibility. Although you need to work with when this tech. was recoverd and how the public dealt with it, if it even knows that it was recovered from EBEs (Extraterrestial Biological Entities) that is. After all, the people with huge religious devotion to the Vatican and the Pope and God, if they find out they aren't the height of the universe, might cause a lot to happen.
Or there might be panics from people thinking an invasion is immenient.
Involving the planetary rights, there is an act (The Space Act I believe...) that bans governments from owning celestial bodies. In your timeline, I'm guessing it was either never made, never taken seriously, or just tossed.
Also, because this is a space race you might need to decide who started the space race. After all, it could have been that one nation that got the EBE technology wanted to make stuff to use on earth with it, but then another made a ship with it and that sparked the space race.
Since the USSR still exists and the Cold War is still going strong in the 2078 of your timeline, it's fully possible that the USSR has spread influence into South America, and you might want to somehow fit OPEC into this. OPEC would be rich in a world running out of resources.
Also, if the USSR and Cold War have survived for another 81 or so years than in our timeline, there's going to be a lot different attitudes. I'm assuming that the US is still the "Better Dead than Red" US of the Cold War, otherwise the have ended most likely. Also take into mind that in a world where there has been a Cold War for 143 years (Judging it doesn't stop in your timeline) there would have been several skirmishes and small battles probably. Maybe another Cuban Missile Crisis, but with a different country? The US putting missiles in Europe somehow leading to Russia invading a nation and putting their own missiles in is possible.
Just some thoughts and observations,
Colton M. H.
