I haven’t even gone through the doors yet and I already hate this place.

This was, unsurprisingly, the first thought to run through Skyler’s head as he eyed the brick building in front of him with cool disdain. A few students (possibly future classmates of his) loitered around in the grassy area in front of the school, divided into many smaller groups that were gossiping excitedly amongst themselves.

Skyler sighed to himself as he shifted awkwardly from foot to foot, realizing how stupid and out of place he had to look standing alone in this mess. But then, it wasn’t like he had any idea how they expected him to act, anyways…

“Problems already?” Turning, Skyler frowned a little at the amusement dancing in Lyles’ eyes as he joined the young werewolf, resisting the temptation to turn the look into a glare. At least he wasn’t alone anymore…

“What do you think?” Skyler asked, turning to scowl at the school again. “I didn’t like this part of my childhood, and I doubt I’ll like it any more now.” Laughing slightly, Lyles slapped his companion’s shoulder playfully.

“Cheer up, chap!” He sang out to Skyler with a grin. “It’s all part of fitting in, after all…”

“Doesn’t mean I have to enjoy it…” Skyler grumbled as he and Lyles started into the building. More students lined the halls, playing the two no heed as they passed. Idly, Skyler wondered how many students went to Wesley South High School. It was larger then more high schools of the time, apparently…

“We’d better get you to the office first.” Lyles told Skyler as he navigated the halls, breaking the werewolf out of his thoughts. “And I hope you appreciate all of this, by the way. It took me ages to get all your paperwork set up…”

“Trust me, Lyles, I’m absolutely thrilled.” Skyler responded darkly. Lyles rolled his eyes at his friend’s mood.

“There’s no talking to you before seven PM, is there?” He asked dryly.

Skyler decided it would be better not to respond.

“Anyways, just remember that you’re my cousin from London. Your family sent you here because they felt it would be better for you to continue your studies abroad.”

“I know, I know!” Skyler snapped, irritated due to both his low blood pressure and the fact that Lyles was bossing him around. Lyles ignored this, already well used to his friend’s moodiness. Instead, he focus his attention on one of the doors they were approaching, slowing his walk to a stop.

“Here we are…” He said, turning back to his friend. “Wait here, and try not to attract any unwanted attention.” Before Skyler could respond to that, Lyles ducked into the office, closing the door behind him. Shooting the wooden obstruction an ugly look in his friend’s place, Skyler sighed in defeat and leaned against a nearby wall.

There’s no reason for him to treat me like a child… He said sullenly to himself. What’s he think I’m going to do anyways? Transform in the middle of the hall? Before he could continue down this line of thought, a flash of red caught his eyes.

Freezing up, Skyler whipped around with wide eyed, half expecting to see a familiar girl standing in the halls. When it turned out to just be a student’s shirt, though, the werewolf forced himself to relax, chastising himself for his paranoia. There was no way they could’ve found him already, after all…

Groaning softly, Skyler slumped against the wall, sliding down the length of it to sit on the floor.

This is shaping up to be a very strange escape… He thought wryly. Sighing, the boy decided to look on the bright side of things; For once in his life, he was the only one in control of his destiny…
