Description Some older (circa 2009) concept sketches for "Inner Space".

I won't disclose too much about the world in which the graphic novel is taking place, but suffice to say there are two empires (and a few smaller nations) locked in a technological arm's race, cold war style.
The technological level is somewhat equivalent to our world's during the 1920s, and most machines are twists on old favourites (entirely justified in-universe, but I'm not going to talk about that yet).

This drawing shows the ocean-going Navy of the mighty Tambrian Empire.
Visible are one battleship, one seaplane tender being resupplied by a fleet oiler, along with a civilian cargo ship which has seen better days...

Mixed traditional media, including markers and ink.

Really like the gun designs with the smooth dome shapes.

I can see the Battleship is Influenced by the Nelson Class.

The far left looks like a cross between an iron clad, hms nelson and the soviet kirov. Very nice and sleek

Thank you, I'm glad you like them. And yeah, that about covers my sources of inspiration...

This is a gorgeos group of ships. I am in love with your battleship. She just grabs my imagination. Your seaplane tender has great lines as well. I do like all ships present in any case. Your color scheeme is excellent, a mix of HMS Rodney's and the US mesure 20. Overall a great peice of work, well done.

Thanks.
I had a lot of fun playing mix and match with warship technology to get something which looks a bit different to what we have in our world, and I'm glad I managed to pull this off at least to a degree.

The camo scheme is indeed heavily based both on the on the British pattern [link] and the US Measure 33/10 as applied to the USS Yorktown in the latter part of the war [link] .

I have reached the same conclusion as you in trying to design a gigantic battleship with the technology of 1930-1940. Not being practical to do more than 700mm cannon caliber because of their excessive weight, I opted for self-propelled projectiles (rockets) like those who launched the SturmmΓΆrser Tiger (38cm Stu M RW61), which was actually an adapted naval weapon.
Also, in order to defend themselves from similar wapons, I have concluded that the armoured towers should have spherical dome shape. I will try to represent it in 3D when I can.

Well, in my world there's the added problem of the lack of rubber, so high pressure applications like recoil dampers are hard to do. Rocket artillery and autoloaders were the obvious choice, since they can make up for the lack of accuracy and range with the sheer volume of fire...
The hemispherical turrets actually come from late XIX century fortification technology, with which I'm quite well acquainted. In real life they were quite hard to build compared to normal sloped armour turrets, but some designs such as the German "Brandenburg" class pre-dreadnought battleships used them nonetheless.

Okay, read above comments and got my answer to my other question.

Exceptional designs. Keep up the good work.

Again, thank you. I hope to add some more drawings with these kinds of designs soon.

The big one reminds me of the lovely deck layout of the old HMS Nelson ^^

You always had a bit of a soft spot for the big lumbering beasts of the ocean, as I remember - at one point one even tried to masquerade as a tree! (albeit unsuccessfully)

Of course, you are absolutely right, the battleship is simply a refinement of the Nelson design, with a bit of a personal twist - the main armament is comprised solely of rocket artillery (lifted from some Soviet designs from the cold war, as you remarked on the other drawing), thus the lack of visible barrels on any of the turrets.
