Featuring Cinnabar and Alex!

The blue-black riddler stood still, waiting for some sort of lead from her rider. Nothing came, and she sighed inwardly, wishing that they could get on with their ride.  It was freezing out here, and she wanted to move, to actually do something.  Anything.  Meanwhile, her handler pondered, not moving the horse along at all.  He sat back in the saddle, observing the landscape around them.  Alex glanced across the Irish fields, not sure he felt like home, just yet anyway.  He had moved here with his uncle, Curtis, after a disastrous relationship crumbled when his ex-partner left, seemingly out of the blue.  Of course, the signs had been there.  But when one is wearing rose colored glasses, all the red flags just look like flags.  At least, that was how he rationalized nor having seen it coming.  Still, he was here, in Northern Ireland, and it was home.  For now.  Would he fly again, if his relationships failed here?  If he couldn't set down roots here?  Well, maybe he could.

Alex sighed, leaning forward to pat his horse's shoulder.  Cinner sighed and shifted her weight.  She was used to his melancholy musings.  But they'd gotten worse since the move.  Since he lost his leg, since…it was always bad, she supposed.  A red strand of her mane flitted into her face, and she shook her head to remove it from her view.  Cinner wasn't sure what to do.  She couldn't hug the human, couldn't say anything to comfort him.  So what could she do?  She did feel for him, wanted to let him know that she cared.  Even if it was getting irritating to listen to him hem and haw.  She was a no-nonsense creature, and wanted it to be clear that she wasn’t about to give up on him…but that she wanted him to take care of business at the same time.

Alex sighed again.  "Cinner," he stated, "I have no idea what I'm doing."  The blue-black mare nickered, as if to say 'you know it.'  Alex laughed, a bitter sound.  "There's this guy.  Nick.  He's sweet.  Well, he did shoot me in the ear at that reenactment," he laughed softly.  This time, it was less bitter.  Cinner remembered the event.  It had been her fault.  She moves out of pattern, and it had cost Alex a pretty good nick in the right ear.  She felt a pang of guilt about it.  Alex had assured the black-blue mare that it hadn’t been her fault; it had been an accident.  Still, she wasn’t sure she believed him.  If she’d stayed in pattern, it wouldn’t have happened at all.  She shivered, thinking how close they’d come to true disaster.  One more inch to the right and –

"What do I do, Cinner?" He mused.  "I like him," he stated.  "And he apologized for shooting me," he laughed, gently.  "So we should..I guess…see where it goes?  But I'm scared.  What if I screw it up again?  It's not like I can un-polyamorous myself," he snorted.  That had been the straw that broke the riddler's back.  Alex had admitted to a crush, and before he knew it, he was alone.  Totally.  Whoops.  Well, nothing to be done about that, supposed the blue-black-and-red riddler.  She didn't know how to say it, but that wasn't the biggest issue She had at the moment.  It was cold, and she wanted to get moving.

Cinner shifted and swished her tail.  Nothing much she could say, so she just reached around and prodded his leg with her nose.  His good leg, that was.  It was a sign of comfort, and also a test to see if he'd get his ass moving.  She was getting too cold, and wanted to get moving.  Besides, it wasn’t like they got to ride every day, and she wanted to see her new home.  Could anyone blame her for that?

Alex tsked and shook his head.  The first flakes of snow were beginning to fall.  It was peaceful.  He wasn't sure what to say, not like the horse was able to chat back with him.  So he patted her neck, to thank the Riddler for listening to him.  She grumbled, and rolled her eyes, but waited for his command, ever the obedient creature.  Her tail swished, though, showing her irritation.  Alex chuckled softly, and ran a hand under the visor of his helmet, pushing his blonde hair back and out of his eyes.

"I guess..we have to see, huh?" Alex mused, as he asked the mare to walk on.  Cinner did as she was asked, moving into the heath, and the falling snow.  "Should I tell him?  Ask him out?  What if he's strictly monogamous, and I lose my chance and–OW!!"

The riddler released his good leg with her teeth.  He needed a reality check.  He should just ask Nick out and SEE how it went, instead of worrying up their ride.  When he worried, he tensed, and it was hard to tell what he wanted her to do.  She had no time for such silliness.  It was not worth it to listen to him worry.  She cared, really, she did.  But she was also a No BS kind of creature, and this whole thing stank of it.  He never knew what he wanted, wish-washed and feared getting hurt.  But the world continued to hurt him, so why not have a little fun with it, while he could?  Right?

"Okay, I'll ask him out, just don't fracking bite me again!" Alex conceded.  The mare snorted in satisfaction.  Not much more she could do.  But she'd be damned if she only listened to him whine without doing a damn thing about it, even just a bite on the leg.  Alex sighed, and started to relax.  Nothing to do at this exact moment but to focus on the ride.  He asked for a trot, started posting.  And the riddler mare responded, moving into a nice, easy jog.  In a moment, he asked for a canter, and they started off in a rocking motion.  Cinner wad amazed at how well Alex sat the canter, with only one good leg, but he had a lot of practice.  Well, she could be amazed, and he could be good at it.  Wasn't like they had to both understand each other totally.  Although, she could always bite him.
