I could make Sonic the Queen, but who would be the King?
I could have the King be Princess Elise, there's just three problems;
1.) King is male (though actually it's "main piece" like if you did Sailor Moon Chess)
2.) I have eight favorite characters in Sonic and I used all eight of them behind the Omochaos
3. and most important) I'm pretty sure people would far rather have Jar Jar Binks and M. Night Shyamalan rather than Princess Elise, lol XD

I like Amy as queen though
It's not really easy to find a good way to allocate Sonic characters (at least on the hero side) to standard chess pieces. Sonic is the main character and he's fast. The king is the most important piece but it's slow. Sonic characters would lend themselves much better to variant chess (i.e. all the characters can move in whatever unique way and it does not have to line up with normal chess rules, so you could have, for example, a King that can move like a Queen, although it would be pretty hard to be checkmated then).
