Description
The Deviant culture in Lemuria is strictly xenophobic. They hate humans, Eternals and Celestials alike. But that didn't stop this fellow's mother from straying a bit outside the accepted gene pool. Finding herself in love with a rogue geneticist from another race that is an offshoot of humanity, the Inhumans, she soon had a son. But they were discovered, she was put to death, and her son thrown into the Lemurian slave pits. Aw, bummer.
But this child's father rescued and raised him in a hidden lair. Training and preparing him for vengeance, the boy grew and became known as Maelstrom. Having the power to control kinetic energies, and more interested in power than revenge, he began to do typical supervillain nonsense. Menacing the Fantastic Four, The Inhuman Royal Family, the Eternals, the Avengers, etc.
Also he died. Like, a lot. But being comics, dying just meant each time he escaped to a new, cloned body. Of course.
He also once tried to ascend to Godhood by becoming an abstract being like Eternity or Death. Namely, being an anomalous being, neither fully Inhuman or Deviant, he chose to replace an abstract being called Anomaly. He even killed the cosmic Avenger Quasar during this plan (chopped the poor guy's arms right off). But Quasar for better and stopped being dead and whooped him good.
Maelstrom had a bad childhood, but he CHOSE to be a jerk. The only good thing he ever did is slip back into Lemuria as a young man and knock boots. Which resulted, secretly, in the birth of the heroic Deviant, Ransak the Reject. Sometimes jerkass jerks can accidentally make a decent kid.
