Welcome back to another Villains Week here at Vector 'Vengers! *twirls mustache *
This is Red Guardian, the Soviet Super Soldier. Which is an identity that has been used by at least 7 people since World War II.
He is literally a Soviet Captain America. Kinda like those cheap pirated DVDs you can buy all over Russia. But, like, a dude. With a shield. And tights. So I guess not at all like a DVD.
One important Red Guardian was Alexei Shostakov, a former Soviet test pilot and KGB agent, who also happens to be ex-husband of Natasha Romanov, the Black Widow. He was a jerk and he died.
Many Red Guardians hang out with a bunch of weirdos who are essentially the Soviet or Russian equivalent of the Avengers. So think of the excellent DVD metaphor again. Yeah, you got it. Anyway. They were called The Soviet Super-Soldiers and then later, after the U.S.S.R. fell, The Winter Guard. Which was smart, because they mostly guard snow. And pirated DVDs.
