Hey, Vectorinos -- we are SOOOOOO close to wrapping up our The Clone Saga coverage. It’s okay….the 90s can’t hurt you ANYMORE…

Not to be outdone by all the other revamps of classic Spider-Man bad guys during the mid-90s, you know Doctor Octopus had to get into the mix, too. What a narcissist!

“But, Vector Vengers,” we can hear you say, “Doctor Octopus got unalived by Kaine! Also we don’t remember Doc Ock having breasts before this!” And you’d be correct, gang. The good doctor WAS slain by Kain (hey, that rhymed), and his cup size was slightly smaller than this. That’s because this was a whole new Doctor Octopus!

Meet Carolyn Trainer, a devoted student and acolyte of Dr. Otto Octavius, who wanted to continue both his scientific AND villainous legacy. She was also the daughter of Seward Trainer, the genetics expert and unwillingly duplicitous mentor of Ben Reilly. The father-and-son relationship those too had, of course, made her murderously jealous. Because comic backstories are WAY too complicated and convenient.

Anyway, this new Doc Ock, sprang onto the scene, menacing Spider-Man armed, quite literally, with her own set of mechanical arms, and like fellow gender-swapped villain, Scorpia, she also had a personal forcefield for protection. Guess they shopped at the same evil villainess shop.

Carolyn also possessed Otto’s virtual reality equipment (that gave Stunner her powers), which she used for all sorts of evil. Including violating any semblance of logic by having virtual reality affect ACTUAL reality like magic. Her goal was to allow a computer back-up of Octavius named The Master Programmer, to “become real.” Because comics.

Eventually, while teamed up with the evil ninja clan, The Hand, Carolyn was able to achieve her ultimate goal of resurrecting the original Ock using a combination of science & the occult, at which point she relinquished the Doctor Octopus title back to Otto, becoming Lady Octopus.
