Rick Deacon was a career crook who couldn’t resist criming up all the time with crimey crimes. And thus, he and some other hoodlums had taken some rich folks hostage because crime reasons. But things didn’t end too well for Rick after Spider-Man and the police showed up. Rick ended up shot by the cops, fell in a river and was presumed dead. He managed to survive, but instead of blaming cops, guns, or bullets, he blamed poor ol’ Spidey and wanted revenge. We’ve heard this song before, haven’t we?

Across town, J. Jonah Jameson, angry with his falling newspaper sales at The Daily Bugle, had once again gone off the deep end. He approached an ethics-deficient mad scientist named Harlan Stillwell - brother of the late Farley Stillwell, the science guy who Jameson had created The Scorpion - about creating a new hero to take on Spider-Man. Because that whole Scorpion thing turned out so well.

Anyway, Harlan took the money and began monologuing to himself about needing a volunteer to create his new super-person. Enter a gutshot and river-stinky Rick Deacon. Rick “volunteered” and forced the Doc to use his nonsense comicbook science on him…at gunpoint. Soon Rick was turned into a being much like Spidey, but instead of the proportionate powers of a spider, he gained the proportionate powers of a house fly. Becoming The Human Fly, Decon gained super reflexes, amazing strength, enhanced vision, flight, and presumably a deep craving for garage and poo.

After shooting and killing Stillwell for his trouble, The Human Fly kidnapped JJJ because crime reasons. This forced Spider-Man to knock the crud out of him, while humiliating Jameson just for fun.

The fly had a short career as a super badguy, fighting Spidey, Moon Knight, and others. But eventually, he was gunned down by the supervillain-killing serial killer, Scourge. But not before he got caught eating garbage a few times. Gross.
