The dim-witted Hubert Carpenter lived with his uncle, who was coincidently, a mad scientist. Emphasis on "mad."

Using nonsense comicbook science, Uncle Humbert gave Hubert superpowers, namely superstrength (enough to lift 5 tons!) and extreme durability (except for his head, hence the need for a helmet). Hubert decided to use these massive gifts to dress as a walrus and commit petty crimes while calling himself, you guessed it, The Walrus. *sigh*

He went largely unnoticed - as much as a giant man in a walrus suit with a rainbow-colored W on his chest can go unnoticed - until he joined a mob of villains attacking the superhero non-team, The Defenders. He was quickly subdued by Frog-Man, who showed up to join the non-team. Loser Vs Loser.

White Rabbit later tried to recruit a team of villains who had been defeated by Frog-Man and so Walrus joined up. But being that there were only two to them, they didn't stand much of a chance, especially when Spider-Man joined in the fray.

The Walrus still blunders around the supervillain underworld, being a simple-minded, super-strong doofus to this day.
