Description This is the famed Macross, one of the coolest ships in the history of sci-fi.

For those of you that know it as the SDF-1 in Robotech and are confused as to why there are ARMD platforms in its arms instead of the Dedalus and Prometheus, this is the Macross as seen in the Japanese movie DYRL and subsequently in Macross 2 and Macross Plus.

The background is once again not mine, I think its from space.com. If you are the rights holder and want it credited or removed, please just let me know.

I'm currently the writer for the Robotech role-playing games. I'm really liking these models, especially the ARMD platforms. Good work!

There was one point where ADV had released the remastered original macross series with new voice actors and in its unedited format. When I saw the DVD cver, I saw that it had the Harmony Gold logo on it. Was the logo put on there for liscencing purposes or did Harmony gold have a change of heart about releasing the original series.

i hate being a dick, but about this i have to say it man. i ma a hardcore Robotech/Macross fan so please understand i know what i am talking about.

The model you so called "SDF-1" is in fact the "SDF-2 Megalord". Just thought i'd let you know.

here is the SDF-1: [link]
here is the SDF-2: [link]
here is the SDF-3: [link]

once again, sorry, but i had to be a dick about this.

Alucard, I say wrote above:

In true Macross, not the americanized/altered/ Macross, there was no SDF-3. The followup to the Macross was the SDF-2 MegaROAD, not Megalord, and it was in fact a totally different looking ship that was mainly a colony ship. Further down the Macross timeline, New Macross class colony ships are created, and the design for their battle sections is somehwat similar to the original SDF-1.

I encourage you to check out Macross Plus, which is available stateside, and to try and find import versions of the other shows (which the creators of Robotech have blocked from releasing outside Japan.)

The problem with alucards presumption is that he is taking a role playing game as "canon" While the game designers usually go to great lengths to "get it right" there is always leeway and compromises made to get everything to fit...as far as screen time all I can comment on is that the SDF-3 and -4 were also seen in the Robotech Shadow Chronicles.
I think the pic is awesome btw!!!

Actually, in the real Macross continuum there have been made atleast 3 confirmed, and presumably 4, SDF -class ships. The first was of course the SDF-1 Macross and the second was SDF-2, which was being build prior to the Space War 1 but the building was halted because of the war. After the war the incomplete SDF-2 was refitted to become the Megaroad-1.

In Macross Frontier, it was revealed that atleast a fourth SDF -class ship, SDF-4 Global which looked just like the SDF-1 and had ARMD carries docked as it's "arms", was build and it remained in active service untill late 2040s, when it was destroyed in combat. Imho it wouldn't sound too farfetched that SDF-3 was built in between the SDF-2 and 4, though it must have been like Macross and Global, and not like the one from Robotech.

About the pic itself: it is absolutely gorgeous, though it looks a bit too toyish to be an 1200 meter long warship. The light source could also be on the front of the ship, so it's front side wouldn't be so shadowed.

(I'd love to see this one animated like the newer Macross -class ships from the latest series
