Omg, how did I miss this? Okapis are the coolest! even cooler, considering that they were once considered legendary....THERE'S HOPE FOR CRYPTOZOOLOGY!!!

*ahem* Yeah, there needs to be some anthro reform on dA...speaking of Okapis, It'd be cool to see some giraffe anthro...maybe I'll just have to do that myself! hmmm....I don't think anyone's ever tried doing fish anthro...that could be interesting!

lol, well okapis are elusive creatures after all.
Yay cryptozoology!

I'm sure you could do a lovely giraffe. And as for fish, I happen to have an anthro fish in my sraps.

Man, that's good to know! Someone ages ago (like last year, maybe longer than that) had stumbled across my gallery and lamented that there weren't more okapis. I'm so glad that has changed.

This is such a neat idea, Okapi (Okapis? Okapi? I have no idea) are such neat-looking animals. And these look absolutely great.
OKAPI POWER!

Thanks for the compliments on my two.

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen okapi anthros (but then again, I haven't been around the net very long, when I think about it ^.^) and they look great! Y'know... I bet that if you ever apply to Yerf... they'd like this. They might want a background or something... but this one is really freaking nifty.

Great job!

Sweet! I don't think anyone's ever called something of mine 'freaking nifty' before. Thanks Nash.

*shys away from backgrounds* I'm such a lazy wolf.
Do you really think this is Yerf quality? Wow. That's something I'd have to think about.

Many thanks.

Nashoba-Hostina In reply to Wolfsjal [2004-02-21 02:32:48 +0000 UTC]

Actually, yeah, I could see this one on Yerf (But then again, i'm just another outsider looking in, when it comes to Yerf). I think that if you finished up the legs/defigned them more in the background a bit, and gave the characters an enviroment... it'd stand a chance in the yerf application process, especially since they're such unusual creatures. Yerf people seem to appreciate that sort of thing.

Lazy is better than not being able to do them very well. I skip out on backgrounds because I'm not that good at producing them.

Just my 2 cents.

okapi are one of my favorite creatures to look at when going to the zoo, but my favorite is the zebra. i guess that is why i like the okapi as well.

was to be different and represent uncommon animals.

i love the fur. it looks just like velvet which is what their fur looks like in real life. excellent job.

lol, yeah, okapis really don't get the attention they deserve... just for being so damn cool looking. They're like zebra-horse-giraffes.
I should have drawn one of them with their tongue sticking out, heh. (they have really long tongues)

I guess I was just a bit late with the Valentine's day vibe. They do look happy and in love. I'm just a cynical, bitter wolf, with a soft spot somewhere deep inside for this sort of thing.

hehe this is great! I love okapis You are right though, I think that besides this pic I've only seen like 1 other okapi pic. I just love their faces and great job with the leg stripes.
Did you know that if you pet an okapi, your hand will be stained brown by the oils in their fur?

Wolfsjal In reply to RedDogEquisYote [2004-02-19 04:14:03 +0000 UTC]

*blinks* That... I did not know.
Cool. How do you know these things?
From wence dost thou acquire thy zoological knowledge, milady?

Don't ask where the heck that came from, cause I have no idea.

The stripes were fun, but the faces took for ever to get looking right. Okapis are odd looking in many ways. But I loves them too.
I actually ran into the only other okapi artist on here, at least so far. I wonder if there are more?

*pounces* Thanks, Red.

LMAO
I think I saw it on tv once.
And I bet the faces are tricky! Such odd bone structure. Do any zoos in your area have them on display? They are great to see in real life The Columbus zoo near me has them. It was really close to the fence too and using its long tounge to eat. Pretty cool
*thinks* I think either Michelle Light or Terrie Smith made an Okapi pic too. I get their art mixed up sometimes

Wolfsjal In reply to RedDogEquisYote [2004-02-19 07:00:16 +0000 UTC]

Nah, the zoo in my city doesn't have a whole lot of anything interesting. I'm glad, in a way. I can't decide how I feel about zoos. I love being able to see animals that I wouldn't ever be able to in the wild, but I feel bad for them all the same.

Wow, another okapi pic somewhere out here! I should try and find it.
