And yeah, I'm not sure whether it's the pose or the colours or what, but it does look like it's not that sharp...but I tried sharpening it a bit and it looked pixelated.

I think it's your's camera AF fault (i've got same problem when i was using my old fuji, it can't focus right on red and green things especially when it was cloudy or dark )

The patterns on its exoskeleton was one of my favourite features of this, too. It went and sat itself in just the right position for the light to be coming through and show them, so they're really a result of pure luck.

What a great posture the insect has...! You know? I mean, the compsition and framing just perfectly lines up with the posture of that insect. You've gotta love it when all the pieces come together like that!
