Description It’s said  we were given two ears and one mouth

to listen more and speak less

So instead of detesting that reflection in the mirror

Lend your ears to the lips of a poet and let’s put those fears to the test

You’ll hear things you’ve been told and acknowledged a thousand times prior, things you’ve been told before but couldn’t bear to believe

“I’ll never hurt you” they said, “You’re beautiful” they said, so wonderful and sweet those honey soaked words must have seemed

But after promises made and successively broken, words fell on deaf ears; unwanted and hurtful

You’ve had enough and can’t stand more words.

Why are the things that others tell you always so far from the truth?

Nothing more than lies - lies steeped in toxicity more potent than any tangible poison

A venom so virulent and caustic its presence erodes your health.
Worst of all, you want to expose a side that you think will hurt others more than you feel you hurt yourself.

Because we feel it’s the only safe place to be, we lock ourselves in the mind’s monolith, by denying ownership - tossing away the key.

And  from skin to flesh and from flesh to sinew and from chords of sinew anchored to bone

Settles something unsettling that’s nestled closer to heart than marrow in bone

But the truth is there’s others just like you – there’s many like you -

Who torment themselves

By thinking they’re always alone.
