Description Sometimes you just gotta work with what you have on hand... which in this case was an iPhone 3G and Instagram app.

4:30am, overlooking intersection of Land Street and Coronation Drive. For those not familiar with Brisbane, this particular intersection is usually about 3-4m above the river.

Got stuck at work for three days, working double shifts because no-one could get to the hospital. A few of us from food services (kitchen bitches) decided to wander down to the river to take a look before starting at 5am on the second day.

It'll take me a few days to clear the message centre, please bear with me.

Soz for the re-submit... didn't want the print.

Haha, to be honest I've got no idea... Alfisti116 or something similar I think. I mostly saw it as a good fallback position if I was caught without a film camera

Do you have one as well? I'll have to sit down and figure out how to add people.

it is an amazing photo wes. my mum and i walked to the centenary highway....you could see the roof of the dfo and the river went up and over the highway bridge and up the highway itself. i didnt have anything to take a photo, which i regret

Cheers... Man, that'd have to have the river pretty damn high to get over the highway bridge. Wish I'd seen it now.

I saw the photos in my local newspaper and couldn't imagine that the streets I had once walked down along the river were now meters below the water. I instantly thought of you and some of my friends down there when I first heard what had happened, so I'm glad to hear you guys are okay for the most part. Quite a sobering snapshot for sure.

It is quite odd to think that the water got that high, some of it's just mind boggling... Ipswitch got a 20m rise in its river. Now where the hell do you get that much water from?

I'm actually surprised at the overall quality of this pic, mate. Especially with a moble. Has a real sense of emotion and atmosphere about it all that conveys a great message about the floods. That person's 'reflection' presence completes it near perfectly too.

Yeah, you and me both. Instagram ages photos quite nicely though, so it suits the slightly dodgy lens on the old iPhones.

I took a look through all the shots I got of the flood, and they're all quite calm pictures... none of the mayhem and destruction that gets shown on TV.

To be honest the other reason I like this one is because it reminds me of those "flooded fantasy/sci-fi city" drawings you see... and then spend the rest of the day wishing you had the skill to draw.

lol, I can understand that. Drawing a ruined cityscape in the midst of a great flood has been on my hit list for years...

Of course, we'll always have the likes of Blue Submarine No. 6 for inspiraton, if anything.

I've not seen Blue Submarine No.6 yet

lol, seriously? I would have thought a bloke who loves Last Exile so much would have checked BSN6 out by now.
