Description So this is pretty much my wrap up of 2013...

Thought I might as well end the year with a kingly fire dragon.

You guys have no idea how much I procrastinated to finish this guy before the year ended. I started him in August, partially colored, then shoved him away in my folder for the longest time. I wasn't really satisfied with how it was looking at the time but I felt bad (like REALLY bad) because this was one of my favorite dragon designs I've done so far this year so I just cracked down this past week and finished it. Finishing it really made the difference. (Lesson learned!!)

Anywho, can't wait to bust some new art out in 2014!! Happy new year all~

Your character is pretty cool! My only critique would just to be a bit mindful of the cropping of the feet and the horn touching the edge. But otherwise not bad!!

What if I told you it was drawn on computer paper?? lol I know some people are probably like "THAT'S NOT ARTSY ENOUGH" but ya know what? It gets the job done, and nobody's gonna know or tell difference if I used that, sketchbook pages, or bristol board. I save the fancy paper stuff for when I'm at school haha

They're my favorite too! Sometimes I think to myself that I do too many dragons, but then I realize how much fun they are to do. I mean you can just do do much with dragons that I don't think you can achieve with other mythical creatures. They're such flexible creatures to work with.

Indeed they are There's only so much you can do with stuff like Minotaurs, Ghosts, Griffins, Ogres etc. But with dragons you can practically do anything! Especially considering the many species of dragons ^^

Agreed! I have an appreciation for all mythical creatures of the sort, and of course you can many different species of troll, orc, griffin, wolf, etc...which are all awesome to look at! But imo there is just something about the appearance of a dragon that is just so grand that other mythical creatures simply can't compare to. Maybe I'm at loss for words or lack proper terminology but something about those creatures that makes fantasy so special is just so unmatched.

Wow, this is absolutely breathtaking! All of the details are spot on and the way you added the fiery shadow adds to the fire's intensity. The fact that this is traditional rather than digital really blows the mind. The colors also match together perfectly. Beautiful artwork and great job!

I was actually thinking of finishing this digitally when I came back to it, but it would've been more complicated knowing that I had already applied color to it, and it would have been a disaster trying to work digitally with the colored pencil.
