Quite well done with the way shadow brings a mystery to the pelvic area.

The model is pretty, and the lighting and effects are nice, but there's something about this pose that is just a little too pornographic for me. There are a lot of seductive, tempting images that pass off as artistic despite being a bit risquΓ©, but some you can just picture seeing in a PlayBoy magazine. Her facial expression is very porn-star-esque. A girl sitting on a table with her legs wide open and naughty bits in view--it sounds just a bit too shy of "art" for my tastes. If you described this image to someone, I'm sure they'd have the same thoughts.
I'll be honest, looking at the image, it looks like something taken by a sixteen-year-old to send to perverted guys online or give to her boyfriend or something along those lines. If you look, she's leaning back. That miniscule bodily position really puts more emphasis on the pelvis, despite the fact that it is the darkest part of the picture. It's like she's thrusting it at you. It's almost contradictory--so much emphasis is put on her bottom half, and yet it is endshrouded in shadow. Her face seems to say "I'm doing something that I shouldn't be." Like she knows you're looking at her, and what you're looking at.
Not to say it's a bad photo. It just could use some tweaking. Possibly have her arms and upper body a little more forward, as if she's not saying, "Hey look! I have a vagina!", but rather, it seems as if she's not really focusing on the fact that she's broadcasting her vagina to the world--she might even be a little shy about it. You could have her hunch over or put her hands on her knees, which would give a reason for the vagina to be covered in shadow. Maybe instead of her sending that smug PlayBoy look, her head could be cocked slightly to the side and her face a little more serene. Right now it seems to be broadcasting sexuality, but a softening of the pose could turn it into "I am a beautiful woman and I am comfortable with my body."
To summarize, just a relaxation of the upper body and a change in the head position and facial expression could, for me, at least, change this from borderline porn to art.
Please don't take this offensively, I've tried not to be insulting or flame-ish or anything. Just my useless opinion and some good old constructive criticism. xD; Hope I didn't offend you. --Judo

I'm actually gonna give you a short response to those 3 paragraphs, actually I should be offened, those were some of my first shots and attempts at photography. I had a simple Point and shoot camera then, and the model and I were seeing each other at the time, this was her way of "getting me going" I hope you are able to see some of my more recent photographs and tell my style has changed somewhat and that I've gotten a bit better since that photo. And yeah I've been thinking of doing alot of thos photos over.
So I've got to ask, why such the focus on a image that is almost a year old? no complaints, I like the fact you spent time to look at my gallery, but why this one?

Actually, I was browsing artistic nude, not your gallery in specific. Why? There really was no reason why. I was looking through photos, commenting on some, and just appreciating others. I didn't specifically take yours and say, "Hmm, I'm gonna critique the hell out of this." I sort of started with a simple comment, but I wanted to broaden it. My teacher always said if you are going to criticize someone's work, say exactly what you mean--thus the length. I couldn't just come in and say my opinion without saying -why.- That would give you a reason to be insulted.
About saying you should be offended, I disagree. I didn't know how old this was, and even so--just because something is old, or a first attempt, doesn't mean that it doesn't deserve equal treatment. I mean, if everyone stopped critiquing art once it was a year old we wouldn't have musems! "Oh, well... it's old. Let's just throw it out." Old works deserve as much attention as new works do. Besides, criticism is always good.
But I'm rambling again. I suppose that's all I have to say, and should close before I think of something else. Next time, please, don't ask "why." Constructive criticism is given with a genuine thought to help the artist, not to insult them. And my brain is in a funk right now, so I can't really think of any way to close this. So... ahem. Forgive the intrusion. --Judo

I wasn't offended, but then lets look at something interesting, you used a museum as a referance, wouldn't you think most of those artist out of the maybe 5 they have on display that there are hundreds that didn't make the cut, that are sitting in a bin somewhere or a relatives house collecting dust... so I had kept my older work to show progression , in both my style and ability. I just thought cause that piece was a year old that no one would of seen it in artistic nude without actually checking out my whole gallery... interesting, but cool.
but I thank you for stopping by, and taking the time out to explain that further.

I like the background, I'm not too fond of the pose, but I think I could work with it. I really don't like the hard light coming from the right of the frame. It's hard to tell where she begins and the sofa ends...
Of course, this comes from someone who has never done any nude photography...

Nice collection of comments you started to collect here.
Then the adult, artistic nature of this site took over and you started getting some genuine feedback. That's one thing I love about this place.
As far as this photograph goes, I like everything except the blur. And I'd desaturate the color a bit, maybe even get it close to B&W. But that is only my personal preference, and thus means nothing.

Ha, what makes you comment interesting is, that I did this one in November, the second set of photos I ever did with someone else, And if I was to re-edit the original now, I'm totally sure it would look different. if you were to compare that one to my more recent work. So personal preference or not, I still like to hear others input, even if it's close to 11 months late. You are welcome back anytime to leave any comment you choose. and thank you for stopping by.
