Description
A pair of Wargs hunting an Auroch. These two Wargs are Kildak (the grey one) and Apbt (the brown), brothers from my Warg's pack. When Wargs hunt they do so in a similar way to how wolves hunt, often separating the weakest animal from it's herd. Auroch are a type of wild cow found throughout Middle-Earth, they can grow upwards of a ton in weight and are often hunted by Wargs. Here they have divided a young male from the rest. Wargs will usually hunt in packs, running in relay to wear down their prey before they attack, unlike wolves however a Warg will usually use its claws to administer the killing blow normally by slitting the throat. Wargs will sometimes employ a killing method used by lions and will cover the nose and mouth of prey to suffocate it.Wargs have human-like intelligence and language so can plan and co-ordinate attacks that few wild beasts are able to defend against. Hunting Wargs are often used by tribes of Orcs and Uruk to hunt for food however in areas where there are frequent battles with the Free-peoples of Middle-Earth there are usually plenty of man legs and Elf ears to go around and some Wargs may go many years without having to hunt wild animals. A lone Warg is a great opportunistic hunter and will kill almost anything when hungry from a rat to a horse, as a pack they can kill larger prey and have even been known to hunt mammoths and drakes.
During a hunt the Wargs will be deathly silent, communicating using their tufted tails, utilising a range of gestures. One Warg will take the lead in a hunt and tell the others what to do, this will be the most senior member of the pack if not the Alpha.
I have had this picture sitting around for ages and just decided to finish colouring it, I think this would of looked better with a background I might try that out next time. My scanner still like making things look pale annoyingly.
