its alright, i started out doing stuff like that years ago, i now make a bit of money from it, if your interested in advertising media style works, you have the right idea and it is a good start! so well done.
here is another little tip that will make your life much easier, if your using Photoshop and you have an image with a plain background, you can use a tool called colour range to select it faster and automatic, then you can delete it with ease. color range is under select context menu.
dont forget to use lots of layers and always save in .psd before .jpg its always quite embarrassing if you do all that work and cant make edits for a client because you .jpg it by accident. it happens to me all the time :/
good luck!

lose the star birst effect, try making something more natural in that respect. the red hat is making the blue swirly not look as strong, you will want to either change the swirly colour to a more red hue purple, change the text position and hey presto you have yourself a composition.
im sorry most people just say thats nice, well im saying that and try this also. lets hope you saved it .psd
Enjoy

Thanks for the tips, this was actually my first picture I have ever made and the dancer was pretty small, so when I re-sized (or how do you spell it?) It kinda lost its sharpness..
Working on it right now!
