Description Just finished this for my Neo (from RWBY) cosplay.

I started working on this in January on and off and I wasn't expecting to finish my Neo cosplay stuff until the comic con here in May and go with a different cosplay for the end of the month. But when Monty passed away, I decided to put my other cosplay aside and finish working on this. There's probably some mistakes you can see if you look closely too, but overall I'm happy with the result.

Materials:
- Lace parasol (bought on Amazon, seam-ripped the frilly edges to get this nice white lace base)
- Pink lace
- Brown Sharpie
- Red acrylic paint
- Pink thread (to sew the pink lace on)

I would've used fabric paint, but I already had the Sharpie and acrylic paint at home. I'm also not sure how the red fabric paint would've stood out compared to the acrylic paint.

(Pardon the puppy.)

I like Neo the most out of all the RWBY Characters, and im hoping that I could one day get the chance to cosplay a gender-bent version of her. I think making the umbrella would be the hardest part. About how long did this take to make?

Mmm...with the steps that I went through, I think it took about a couple of weeks (minus waiting for the parasol to arrive) at most? But I also work full time and I had a few other kinks outside of work/cosplay that I had to sort through, so I'd say it'd only take a week at most if you really try.

Let me know if/when you get your genderbent Neo all done! I'd love to see it.

I'm actually in the process of planning my Neo cosplay. You can see on my Instagram (DrunkOnAnime) my basic sketches. I'm really confused on what to do for the umbrella. Mind helping me out??

Sure! What part of the parasol are you having trouble with?

I'm confused on aΒ few things:

Where to start? This is first cosplay prop ever for me.

How to add the design at the edge of the lace (Which was put in red for your umbrella)

How to layer the lace (also, where did you get the brown lace)

Thank you so much~!!

I first started by buying a lace parasol on Amazon. I bought mine here:Β www.amazon.com/Darice-35058-1-… I seam-ripped the excess frilly lacing on the edge. After that, I grabbed a brown Sharpie/permanent marker and just colored both the inside and outside of the parasol for the brown lace/edging. Then I bought some pink lace fabric and made 8 triangles and I hand-sewed them to the parasol while it was open. Finally, I used a small paintbrush and red acrylic paint, and using a reference image I had from the RWBY Wiki, I started painting the red detailing.

I think the only things I would change if I were to redo this are to use brown fabric dye with a brush for the brown lace (I would look up to see if any tutorials on dyeing fabric with a brush exist even), and to use red fabric paint instead of red acrylic paint. I went the Sharpie and acrylic paint route because I was cheap and I already had these mediums at my place.

Hope that helps! Let me know if you still need more help or any clarification.

Great work! Besides the wiki did you have a picture reference that you used?

Thanks! (And thanks for the fave!) I actually only used the Wiki as a reference, plus it was the only clear shot of Neo's parasol that I could find.

OK, I figured but was just wondering. I made a Neo figure (isaiah14.deviantart.com/art/Ne… ) and was going to make the open parasol but made a closed version of it instead.
