Ok, so I kind of decided to change a lot of things about Jake since I first drew him, so I decided to draw new reference for him. And the other characters from that story who didn't really have a real ref before (so it includes the main characters and the villains, maybe even Varenell's human form, because I think the references for Nord and other dragon-like things, and the plant monsters are still decent X'D). So... Yeah, enjoy it I guess X'D

Jonathan Smith (his doctor in the past, now his enemy), Carmen Collins (also his enemy after he learns about her being behind Amy's kiddnapping/his parent's death).

Backstory

Jake was born in a normal family and initially had a pretty good childhood. As a child, he was a pretty smart, kind of nerdy and shy kid who was doing great at school and also pretty quickly developed a deep bond with his younger sister, Amy. He kind of always knew, that Amy was a special child in a way. Every in the family knew, since... Well, it isn't that hard to notice when a child has literal superpowers. He had no idea how it'll change his life in the future.
His parents died and his sister went missing when he was 8 years old. He wasn't around when it happened (he was on vacation on a summer camp or whatever at this time, and it was probably the only thing that saved him - since it would be pretty hard for the people that got sent after their family to quietly take him down without all the kids and their caretakers who were constantly looking after them noticing... They tried to make sure he's not a threat later, in a different way later though). But of course suddenly learning that his family died in an accident (well it was the offcial reason) while he wasn't there of course was pretty traumatic for him. Especially since he didn't have any other relatives that could take care of him.

He was adopted by a couple who didn't have their own child shortly after, but it doesn't mean he was suddenly completely happy again. Of course he was pretty depressed at the time, but there was other thing. Nobody knew what happened to his sister. In fact, everyone was acting like she didn't exist at all. Nobody spoke about her, everyone acted like he was crazy when he mentioned her. Of course he didn't know that the government did everything to erase any evidence that a person known as Amy ever existed. So everyone thought he was an only child of a couple that died tragically in an accident. Well, everyone besides him. He knew he has a sister and kept asking everyone what happened to her, but without any success. Nobody believed him. They thought it's some kind of a delusion caused by the trauma. It would make sense, after all he was a small kid who just lost his family. They sent him to a therapy, which of course didn't help. At least not until his adoptive parents got contacted by a pretty mysterious guy named Jonathan, who claimed to be a pretty successful doctor who can help him using some experimental medicine. After a while of this Jake noticed something terrible. Whatever this new medicine was, it was slowly making him lose the memories about his family. Of course he didn't want to forget them, so soon after he realized that he started to forget some details from the past, he stopped taking those medicines. He would pretend to do so, and throw it away when nobody was around. And because he realized somebody really don't want him to talk about his sister, he stopped, pretending the therapy worked. After a while everyone thought it was a success. But he never forgot and promised that someday he will learn about what really happened to his family.
That whole thing made him really paranoid and distrustful, so he started to avoid people and never had many friends. Rumors about him being crazy didn't really help either. Most of the people just ignored him, and he was actually okay with that, even if sometimes he felt lonely. But at the same time he felt like nobody is going to understand him anyway. Well, nobody besides one guy named Dustin, who shared a lot of interests with him. The two quickly become best friends and he was one of the only things that made Jake feel like he could find his own place in the world.
Secretly, he was doing huge research about what could happened to his family, gathering all the info he could. Spent a lot of time online, looking for any kind of hint, reading through a lot of weird conspiracy theories and getting in contact with way too many of pretty suspicious people who claimed to have some useful info. Because of all of that he got into hacking at some point - to be able to get even more potential clues about what could happen that day. After literal years of searching he finally found something that could be an explanation for all of this. Something that would seem like another crazy conspiracy theory if the supposed leaked top secret documents didn't look pretty authentic. Something all about a secret international project all about basically creating living weapons. It also mentioned taking people, who were randomly born with weird abilities from their families to experiment on them. And if he remembered one thing about his sister, it was that she was a pretty... Special kid.
He started to go deeper and deeper into it and that was how he got in contact with Charlotte - a girl whose mother was a scientist at one point involved in some big top secret operation in some small town located far away across the country, who suddenly dissapeared one day. And now she was also looking for answers. They started talking and were doing so for some time. And she actually managed to get some info during the time, which she shared with Jake. Finally, after literal years of planning and talking, they come up with a plan, which involved Jake visiting that town and starting his search for truth there (after meeting with Charlotte and exchanging more info).

Now, as an adult, he finally had an opportunity to do what he promised to do when he was a kid. Find out what happened. He was planning it for a really long time, slowly gathering the money and that little pieces of informations that he could. One day he just quit his job, took all the money and left, leaving only a note for his adoptive family about how he's done with all those lies and he's going to find out about his past. Probably even without any way to contact him, for their own good. Starting with the town his new friend mentioned.
So he travelled across the country (taking care of a stray dog in the middle of that) and... Well, found something completely unexpected when snooping around. His little sister, now a teenager, with some weird dog - like creature with her, apparently escaping from the secret lab, which just suffered from some huge accident. After convincing the two to go with him (which wasn't easy obviously, thankfully Amy also had some memories about her childhood and recognized him eventually) and quickly stopping at Charlotte's place, they decided to leave as quickly as possible, when everyone is way too focused on fixing the damage in the lab to search around properly. Since then they had two goals - run away as far as they could and visit their parent's home town to try to find out even more about when happened to them.

Of course they were followed by Lauren, who eventually changed her mind and decided to help them instead, but I'll say more about that in her reference.

Personality

As I said already, Jake is kind of this quiet, nerdy guy who prefers to avoid most of the people, excluding his closest friends and family. That's the result of terrible trust issues caused by the constant feeling everyone around him is lying. He doesn't really trust anybody at this point, in fact, sometimes he can be pretty paranoid. But in general he's a pretty smart guy who is great with planning and organizing stuff. Also pretty stubborn and sometimes gets really emotional (which lead to even more people belive he's crazy and unstable in the past, sadly). He's also really honest guy who absolutely hates lying. Sometimes he seems really overly excited about some stuff though, and can annoy everyone around him endlessly with various video games/movies/TV series/comic books references. And also has a tendency to make bad jokes when nervous.
His main goal is finding the truth about his family and finally living better life, without everyone constantly lying to him.

Interests

Mainly technology related. He's really interested in computers in any way, as well as programming and video games. He also has a lot of other, pretty nerdy interests, like a lot of various movies and books. He also likes a lot of various old songs, usually rock though.

  Appearance

He's a medium height guy with a dark skin with a lot of darker freckles all over his body. He's slightly overweight, at least at the start. He'll lose some weight and get more fit in the middle of his travel, especially after Lauren convinces him to work out with her (so he could get stronger and help protect his sister better). He has short, curly hair, which is dark, but not exactly black. More like a really dark brown, which has kind of reddish undertone to it and sometimes even looks red in the sun. I know that it's... Kinda unusual, but I imagine his parents looking DRASTICLY different from each other and him and Amy kind of being a perfect mix of the two X'D
He wears big glasses in a white frame at all the times, because he has a pretty bad eyesight. And speaking of his eyes, they're big, kinda round and brown colored.
When it comes to clothes, it's usually pretty simple in theory - just some long, oversized shirts, baggy jeans and some comfortable shoes. Sometimes also a baseball hat. But... Well, not really. Because he really loves bright colors and crazy patterns, big, colorful prints and even some neon elements. It may seem weird for someone that paranoid and afraid about people spying on him, but he believes it's actually making him a less obvious suspect if something goes wrong. After all everybody who doesn't want to be suspicious wouldn't want to stand out from the crowd, so why would anyone suspect someone who obviously doesn't care?

Strenghts

Mainly his knowledge about computers and various technologies in general, and also his hacking skills. But he's a pretty smart guy in general, great at planning and avoiding getting into trouble. Sometimes the fact he doesn't really trust anybody helps, because it makes him really careful. Also, he learned a lot of various things about the world accidentally, while he was doing his secret research. And while some of that info seems just weird and useless at times, it'll also help him at times. He can also came up with some... Pretty unconventional plans that end up working great sometimes.

Weaknesses

At the same time his trust issues can cause a lot of trouble sometimes. He literally won't trust anyone nor anything they say, so he won't believe them until he checks everything himself. He also suspects almost everyone of not being honest with him, and in general is pretty paranoid about everything. Also, he can get way too much emotional for his own good at times - which is probably caused by the childhood trauma.
He's also not the physically strongest person out there and his stamina is pretty bad. At least at first, it'll improve after some training with Lauren.
