Hi there! Well ripple reflection isn't easy to do. I'm not sure what kind of tip I could give you that would really help you. The only thing I can say is to use good reference models and study them carefully, try to undersand the pattern behind that chaos of light lines and reflections, make sketches and studies until you get it right. That's the best I can say. There isn't any secret formula, just keep practicing and trying and you'll get the results you're looking for.

Oh my goodness. I love the detail and
realism to this. Especially in the expression
of her face. I can see it in the texture of her
skin, the reflection, and ripple of the water.
Simply one of the top-most beautiful works of art
I've seen.

beautiful. perfect concept of anatomy, and great use of the oil paint. I don't get to paint with oils very often, but I know they're sometimes a bitch to deal with, and I really appreciate how well you handled them her.
I think this is amazing, and furthermore, I love cardboard. the end.

Ah well thank you very much. Personnally, I find it easier to work with oil and to obtain results I am looking for than I would with watercolours or acrylics...

It works really well for me sometimes, especially when I'm using oil paint sticks, but other times it becomes a hughe mess, and some of the paint starts to peel off on parts, and stuff. times like that I just kind of give up, and set it aside for a really long time.

Wow, the reflection is perfect, and the distortion from the ripples is dead-on. Another very cool idea. (And on cardboard? Really? Wow.)

Just curious... why would you paint on cardboard? Even if you gessoed it, I doubt it would last very long before deteriorating. And it would be such a shame, after painting something so beautiful.

Well, there was a few reasons for that. First, the texture of a canvas used to annoy me; I wanted something really without any texture to create a surface as smooth as possible. It also used to be a matter of cost, especially when I was in my university (most of my paintings were done during that period) coz I didn't have much money, although that's not really a problem anymore. I also liked the freedom I had of cutting off the cardboard as I wished to have exactly the proportions I wanted for my paintings, which is more limited when it comes to buying canvases. Another reason would be that before doing a painting, it's important for me to make a very detailed sketch with pencils before starting to paint, and drawing on a canvas really is a bitch, since you can't erase.
But I don't have that problem anymore since I bought a really nice projector in which I simply place my sketch and project it on the canvas, so there's no possibility of mistake and no need to erase, just outlining the projected image on the canvas. And it saves me SO much time! And I realised that the texture ain't so bad after all, it's actually easier to make more accurate shadings, and as far as details are concerned, well I use painting medium, which makes the oil painting easier to work with.

I see. Well I know where you're coming from with the "poor art student" bit. I was there as well. If you have the tools and the time, making your own stretchers and canvases saves quite a bit of money, and gives you the flexibility of making it any size you want. Plus when you make your own, it's easier to sand and smooth the surface between coats of gesso, which gives you a much less textured surface to work with. Which I also prefer, as well. The heavy tooth canvas is more for artists who need to slap lots of paint around without it sliding off.
Again, great work though.
