"The trip west was drawing to a close, and had been more than satisfying. It was little more than an exciting holiday into Australia’s outback, and somewhat hotter than their usually mild coastal home. Balendin was a charm as always, and due to the costs of transport he had been the only cat to join Amy on her brief but refreshing vacation – he had, after all, always been special. He was more than the machine of her sport and hobby, for he weren’t any less than the heart of her interest and building passion. A friend, so to speak.
Camera clutched in hand, the twenty year old stares expectantly at her Shedu-ccompany; who had taken up a rather lax residence atop a dusty ledge, pale chin and undersides stained an aussie-grown, rusty brown. “Come on Balen, time to shine,” readily, she peers through the viewfinder, alas he doesn’t budge. “Hey, lazy!” Amy scuffs a small stone with her boot in his direction, only to achieve little more than a twitch from his shoulder where it grazed dully against his propped elbow.

The young adult groans, a hand pressed against her hip as she ponders how she might get him to move. As it seemed, he was no longer gazing contently at his surroundings, but in an impressively deep slumber. The diamond collar on his neck shone with an unfamiliar elegance; rather out of place in their surroundings, but undoubtedly to be a nice addition to the photographed memories. Finally, an idea; “Balen, rabbit! Get the rabbit!” of course, he wasn’t to know there was no rabbit, but rather a cruel prank on behalf of his handler (who knew he took sufferable pleasure in attempting to catch wandering bunnies). It started with a twitch of his lips, and soon led to his emergence; slipping to his impressive feet, only to decline down the embankment with a lazy stretch and --- Snap! Of the lens."
