Hello, all.
I'm going to be taking a break from my weekly features. In all honesty, this is something I should have done several months ago. For the past few months I have been struggling on with these, while also fighting with all my work from uni, teaching as well as battling the demons in my head.
I really feel like I want to be honest with you guys about this, because it is over all the years I have spent here on DA that I learned what being loved and supported really feels like, and you guys deserve to know that I am taking a break and why. I really don't want you to think I am ditching you guys, because I am not, and I hope that in all the years I have been here there's one thing you can take away from my activity, and that is that I really do care about you, the community and what I do. I love creating content for you guys, and share the gorgeous pieces of art that I find while browsing the site.
As most of you know by now, I am very passionate about having everybody take care of themselves, and I've been pushing people on the importance of doing so, as well as the importance of having good mental health. However, as much as I tell others to take good care of themselves, that's how often I forget to take care of me. And I know there are some of you out there who want to slap me on the skull for not doing so, but if you're struggling with mental health, you also know that self-care doesn't always have the highest priority, but battling demons or distracting yourself is, while also managing to keep up with daily life. I feel like I pushed myself too hard to keep going, and while that is not a bad thing in itself, it can become a bad thing, which it has now.
For the last four years, give or take, I have been posting several weekly feature series every week, without really taking a break from them. Instead, I just kept going, curating art for all these features, finding the gems, the outstanding, the underexposed and so on. And while I really do love creating these features for you, we all need a break from time to time. For the last six months orso I have been losing motivation to keep up with this crazy schedule of four weekly features every week. So instead of having fun finding art, it started to feel like an obligation I am expected to meet, that I don't want to let you guys down and skip a week for these features, which eventually turned this hobby into a chore, while also taking away time from creating art and hanging out with you guys.
This made me realise that I really needed to sit down and think about why I joined dA in the first place, so many years ago. I joined because I wanted to have fun, I wanted to share art, meet fellow artists and enjoy other people's art. And because of the pressure that creating these weekly features has put on me, as well as the time it takes to create them in the first place, I feel like I haven't been able to really do that anymore. As you know, the community is super important to me, and I cherish it dearly, but lately I haven't been able to fully immerse myself in it and enjoy it.
When I started all these different series I had a lot more time on my hands than I do today, so I need to start managing my online time better. What that means for my features, I do not know yet. What I do know is that, for the time being, my weekly features will be on hiatus. These features are Exposing the Unexposed and Feature-Fest. I will continue my monthly series, and occasionally, I might drop a Lit Loves or a Sweet Saturday, but definitely not every week, instead, it will happen when I feel like it. I will however keep on running GuidingLightProject , as well as SeniorSelections and NaturesHaven , and continue in my supporting roles in the other groups I am a part of, and of course my literature contest is now also up and running! I am hoping that this will give me some space to do some new and different things for the community instead, something that will keep me in touch with you guys more (and I am already gearing up for some exciting things that I can't wait to tell you about!).
I am really sorry if this is disappointing to any of you, but I need to remember to take care of myself, and to keep having fun too. Please know that I didn't take this decision lightly, and I truly hope you will understand.
Sending love,
Monique

Awww it never occurred to me how much you had to do each week just on the features! That is insane! I have struggled just to do one a week for Still-Life-Stills !! You take all the time you need no sense doing them if they are not fun!
Hope you are well my good friend

Yeah it was crazy actually! I never realised that until I took that break. It's been good just doing the monthly features, it's making it feel less like a chore and more like fun again.

Dankjewel! En het gaat zeker goed komen!

i only do one weekly feature and i had to miss it this week because of an unexpected meeting with someoneβs car while walking the dogs. The week has been too stressful. So to do as much as you do, sometimes we get more done when we try to do a little less. And in the few pieces of interaction we've had you have always seemed very warm, which is worth far more to me than the number of features each week.

I didn't even realise it had been four years until I looked it up, and it really baffled me how I never really took a break from them, so it definitely was long overdue. I now have some other fun things coming up that I am really excited about. The change will be good for me!
Hope you're feeling better now, Liam! And thank you for your everlasting kindness and support, I appreciate it

It's something I do as well- taking care of others instead of myself. I tend to lose myself easily, but I am working on not doing that so much. I have some new fun things to do instead of the features coming up soon, and I can't wait to share those! I have a feeling this change will be good for me.

This is a good thing to do!
Your health goes first and self-care is so important!
It seems you have a really tough schedule, so allow yourself some rest!!
I am proud of you that you take that step!
Take all the time you need and do what is good for you!
Every reasonable person will understand this
and I think we all in the community appreciate your decision.
We are happy to see you and your activities from time to time,
but most importantly we want to have you healthy and not stressed out
If you need anything, I am here
Sending love

I do have a busy schedule, especially this semester, since I will be teaching as well as following classes at uni. It wasn't a step I ever expected I'd take, but right now it's a necessary one. I have some other fun things planned, and those still are very community oriented, but less time consuming than weekly features, and I can't wait to share more about those in the upcoming weeks!

Nature photography, Still Life photography & Poetry and short stories and English Language
Hi there!
My name is Monique. I have been on dA for about 16 years now, if I were to include my old account. I am a photographer, and my favourite things to photograph are nature and my sweet bunny Bubs. I started out with photography when I was about 5 years old, which has been a minute! I am also a writer - I have published one novel so far, but more are in the works, and I also love poetry. In my offline life, I am an English language teacher to students whose second language is English. In my online life, I love hanging out here on dA and spend time with my friends in the community. I love curating and showcasing other people's art, but I also love helping people improve their work, as well as sharing my own work with you!

It really can be, especially if offline life gets more busy! When I started them up, my offline life wasn't as busy as it is now, so then it was very doable. These days, less so. Thank you for understanding
