Description Of all the tyrannosaurs in the late Cretaceous of North America, Daspletosaurus is among the most rare. The Rocky Mountain Dinosaur Resource Center houses two of these huge theropods in its collection. The most complete one, at 75%, is "Pete III", a 35 foot long specimen. Preparation was slow and painstaking due to the highly fractured nature of the bones, but the result is beautifully preserved skeletal material. The delicate preservation of the bone necessitated taking the specimen out in 75 individual plaster jackets, the largest at over 12 feet long and weighing in at over 4 tons. Over 600 pounds of plaster were used in the process of making the largest single jacket in RMDRC history.
