Well, hmm, let me think, best thing would be to start learning one of the modeling programs first, you have a rather wide choice, such as blender creator (free) 3ds Max (pay), Lightwave (pay), Zbrush (pay) maya (pay) and so on, when you can model things to your liking in one of these programms (i use 3ds max for instance) you can start the process of building custom clothing by exporting genesis 2 for example to the used programm (i export as .obj and import it in max, then i just have to turn it around a bit so it is in the correct position) then build your clothes, delete the reference (eg genesis 2) and export back to daz studio/poser

glad i could help, another hint would be, that i mostly use spline cage modeling for the corset shape and such, and box modeling for the zipper and stuff like that!
