Long ago there lived a giant, a griffon, a lion, a snake, and a bear. All was largely peaceful until one day the Bear and the griffon had an argument over an island.
The Bear said this belongs to me as my ancestors lived here before. The Griffon said no his ancestors and family live on the island. The Bear became angry and charged at the Griffon however the Griffon jumped into the air landed on the Bear causing him to fall to the ground. The Bear angry and in pain yielded and went home.
With his pride boosted the griffon turned to the Dragon whose home he admired. Walking up to him he asked oh mighty Dragon you have so much wealth and power may I have some. The Dragon puffed smoke at the Griffon and yelled THIS WEALTH IS THE WEALTH THAT MY FAMILY HAS FOUGHT AND DIED FOR. IF YOU WISH TO HAVE WEALTH OF YOUR OWN THEN WHY DON’T YOU JUST DO SOMETHING OTHER THAN WATCH OTHERS WORK. Before he could reply a younger Dragon charged in yelling YOUR TIME HAS COME OLD FOOL. YOUR WEALTH BELONGS TO ME. The griffon jumped out of the way a witnessed the two dragons fight. Knowing this was his chance he grabbed as much gold as he could and flew off to his home. His deed did not go unnoticed as the Giant saw everything from his home.
The Griffon pleased with himself started planning his next heist until he saw the Giant walk up. In a soft tone he said I saw what you did Griffon, and I want you to return what you stole from Dragon. Griffon full of pride retorted it is not my fault that the Dragon managed his home so poorly that his child would be rising up against him. I asked him if I could have some of his wealth he said to do something other than watch others work. Giant shook his and said that is not what he meant now until you return Dragon’s gold I will not give you fire wood to cook, and keep your home warm. I will not give you wood to make arrows to hunt with, I will not give you the iron to make your shovels, knives, hammers, or arrow heads. Giant then turned and walked away. Griffon now full of anger at Giant for not giving him what he need, no deserved began plotting.
On the other side of Giant’s home a newly hatched Snake had started to swallow his neighbors until only Giant, Lion, and Bear remained. Snake tried to sweet talk Lion into just letting him eat him but Lion being much older than Snake saw through his lies and told him no. This made Snake angry and eventually Snake was able to wrap around the Lion but because of his young age was not able to hold onto for very long. Thinking he need to get bigger he turned to his friend Bear bit him and injected him with his venom. The bear yelled WHY SNAKE I THOUGHT WE’ER FRIENDS. Snake coldly replied I’m a snake, and I must grow. To grow I must eat even if that means eating those around me. Bear stumbled but didn’t completely give in to the venom. Giant saw what Snake did and knew Bear would not be taken down so easily decided to stay out of this fight.
Later Giant was asleep when he heard crashing. Jumping awake he saw griffon searching for something. Looking around he could see that Griffon had broken his arrows, smashed his work table and bent his swords. Griffon not noticing Giant awake thought to himself where is Giant’s bow. Then a cold chill ran down griffon’s spine. He slowly turned around and saw Giant standing there with a club. Griffon knew he was caught and bolted for the window. Giant saw Griffon driving for the window tried to close it but was too late as Griffon already fled. Sighing Giant looked around and went to the work table and opened a box which contained his bow and three arrows. Grabbing his tools Giant set to work.
Loin was holding but old age was starting to take it’s toll. Snake was getting better and better with each strike and was able to hold on to him for longer. Loin stared at Snake who was preparing another strike until an arrow hit him. Loin turned to see Giant standing holding an arrow pointed at Snake. In pain Snake yelled I WILL NOT LOSE TO INFEARER CREATURES. Only to see Bear rip his tail off. Horrified by the loss of his tail Snake Lunged at Giant who simply dodged and grabbed Snake. He then threw Snake head first into Bears mouth and Bear bit down hard. Bear then spit Snake’s head out on to the ground. Snake trying to talk muttered i….shall…. win…..I’m……s….up….Snake’s head then stopped moving.
Griffon loading a chart full of gold and items stopped cold as two voices yelled STOP. Turning around Griffon became scared as instead of fighting each other the two Dragons had noticed Griffon loading the older Dragons wealth into his cart. Knowing he was busted he chose to flee with ill-gotten goods. The dragons enraged by Griffon’s actions gave chase only to lose him when Griffon threw the cart into them. Angered by his discovery Griffon swore to take everything the Dragons had no matter the cost. Arriving home he saw his home burst into flames. Noticing Giant standing there as he took out two arrows and a match. Using the match he lit the arrows. Enraged Griffon dove for Giant but was met with extreme pain from his wings causing him to crash into the ground. Looking at his wing ne noticed them bleeding and burning. Quickly he rolled around until the flames were put out but as he recovered he was hit with a kick to the stomach. Looking up he saw Giant with a scow on his face as he started to beat up Griffon. Giant stopped once his arms got tried and noticed Griffon just lying there.
Setting on the ground next to him watched as Griffons home burned. Griffon using what strength remained crawled next to Giant and started to cry. Giant then asked why did you steal from Dragon and break into my home and break my things. Griffon with tears running down his face replied all I wanted was to know how it feels to be powerful. Giant sat there just staring. Griffon then said no I wanted to have money and power. The power to scare others into submission, the wealth to do what I wanted when I wanted. Now I can’t. All my wealth and power is going up in smoke. Giant then put his hand on Griffon’s head and said power does not exist. You live in fear. The only thing you can do is trade what you are afraid of. I’m powerful not because I have some power over people. I’m powerful because I’m scared of what would happen if I don’t do something. I’m wealthy because I’ve learned to work hard and save in times of plenty for times of nothing. Dragon knew just by giving you his wealth you would just keep asking until nothing was left. However if you worked hard and saved you would have wealth to call your own as Dragon said you would not have lost your home. Now I’ll give you a choice start working for your wealth or I’ll cut your head off here. Griffon froze and thought for a moment then said I’ll work. Giant nodded good now once the fire is out we’ll get work.
Many years later
The old Dragon died and the young dragon replaced him. However the young Dragon never forgot what Griffon did to him kept an eye on him. Bear and Giant competed against each other until Bear passed away due to old age. His cub took his place and started to compete against Giant like his father. Lion battered and bruised recovered over time but the Snake’s venom took its toll on him. No longer able to maintain his vast territory he has kept mostly to his den and surrounding area. A promised Giant helped Griffon get to work and now enjoy each other’s company. All though Griffon does get annoyed by Giant’s boasting of their fight.
