Description
AgoutiThe agouti gene has three alleles in a dominance chain: sable, saddle, and recessive black. Sable is most dominant (AA, Aas, Aa), saddle in the middle (asas, asa), and recessive black the least dominant or most recessive (aa). Agouti will show as long as the genotype has E or Em and will never show when ee, recessive red.
Sable is the most variable of the alleles, ranging from barely visible along the topline to nearly solid black, with red only showing on the face, neck, chest, and belly. Black can begin slowly creeping up the feet and tail, but will not form stockings or a solid black tail unless the black starting from the topline is more extensive and spreads downward to meet the it.
Saddles can occasionally appear similar to sable. Black hairs spread from the neck, shoulders, and down the back to the base of the tail in the lowest expression. High expression will form a full collar around the most of the neck, almost go around the belly, and extend fully down the tail. The head, chest, belly, and legs will remain unmarked.
Recessive black turns the coat solid black, not allowing any red hairs to show on the body.
Agouti goes under all natural and mutation white.

A NOTE ABOUT VISUAL GUIDES
Zhoruka visual guides offer general guidelines for colors, patterns, placement of markings, and extension of markings. They are not set in stone, hard rules, but they are fairly true to our design expectations. You are not required to color pick from gradients; they are meant as a starting point for those who may not know what colors to use.
