Description
ExtensionThe extension gene, in short, determines whether or not black hairs--black, liver, blue, or lilac--will be expressed and allow the agouti pattern to show. There are three alleles in the series: masked (Em), full extension (E), and recessive red (e). There is a dominance chain between the three alleles with masked being the most dominant (EmEm, EmE, Eme) being the most dominant, extension being in the middle (EE, Ee), and recessive red being the least (ee).
Masked Zhorukas have a black mask as well as their agouti pattern showing. Masks vary in size, covering at the very least the tip of the muzzle and around the mouth, and at the highest expression, it covers nearly the entire face and most of the front half of the neck.
Full extension allows the agouti pattern to show as usual. See the Agouti guide for more information.
Recessive red prohibits black hairs from showing, causing a solid red coat without any black markings. The nose and skin, however, will be a shade of black. Red hairs will range from being an off white or cream color to a dark red-brown, but golden browns are the most commonly seen shade.

A NOTE ABOUT VISUAL GUIDES
Zhoruka visual guides offer general guidelines for colors, patterns, placement of markings, and extension of markings. They are not set in stone, hard rules, but they are fairly true to our design expectations. You are not required to color pick from gradients; they are meant as a starting point for those who may not know what colors to use.
