Description LYCAON
Lycaon (Lyc) is a dominant gene that affects all the black and white hairs. Black markings will appear randomly on the body, but there will always be some sort of facial mask. Because black markings are randomly placed, agouti patterns (ie. sable, saddle) will not show, nor will other pattern mutations, such as ume and fisi. Black hairs will cover approximately 25-90% of the body.

White markings will appear in a semi-random pattern if your Zhoruka has natural or mutation white. On low white lycaons, white will appear on the legs and possibly a little on the chest, belly, and/or tip of the tail. White tends to start from the bottom of the toes and extend upward. White markings are entirely optional, but extensive white that covers more than 25% of the body will only occur when a white pattern gene (ie. damao, sura, weu) is present. White will almost never appear on or around the face but can cover up to about 75% of the body.

On recessive red and recessive black Zhorukas, lycaon will only be show in white patterns. This would be because there are no black hairs in recessive red, and recessive black is solid black. Lycaon will not affect the eye color.

A NOTE ABOUT VISUAL GUIDES
Zhoruka visual guides offer general guidelines for colors, patterns, placement of markings, and extension of markings. They are not set in stone, hard rules, but they are fairly true to our design expectations. You are not required to color pick from gradients; they are meant as a starting point for those who may not know what colors to use.
