Description
Hello hello! So my first semester of University is over and I'm off for the Christmas break! I'm extremely happy to get back to doing digital art and I felt it was time to do a new Sonic picture. This time Sonic Adventure 2 was on my mind, as all of the Sonic Boom shenanigans are putting Sonic fans in...a bad mood? I dunno...the games don't look too good, but I haven't played 'em so I can't really judge. The show is pretty funny though! All of this Sonic stuff has me reflecting on the golden days where I spent countless hours replaying Sonic Adventure 2 over and over again.
A few weeks back I asked you guys what your favourite stages were in Sonic Adventure 2, and though a lot of people said City Escape, it was the people who said Pyramid Cave and Sand Ocean that had me coming up with ideas. Instead of just doing one stage I decided to incorporate all of the main characters from the game, as they all had some great moments in the sandy areas of the story. The Egg Beetle in the Rouge level always freaked the living daylights out of me though. When the room started glowing green I would start panicking, as the Beetle shooting those lasers was just so terrifying. (No one told me you could hide in the shadows...)
Aaaaaanyways. Yeah, it's good to be getting back into my jam and I can't wait to do some more art in the coming weeks!
See ya!

Hey, I made a Space Jam remix of the theme of Pyramid Cave and I'd like to post it to YouTube with this as the visuals and then put basketball players over the faces when the Space Jam theme starts playing. Would that be alright? I'd absolutely credit you in the description with a link here.

I kind of stopped watching the show since I'm more of a binge watcher than follow every week type of guy haha! I've read all the Sonic Boom comics though and they are the bomb diggity!

Yeah, but I think there may have been rumours of Sonic Boom returning in short stories in the comics but I might be wrong

I suppose I can live with one relative success out of three, but personally, I want what happened this year to be put behind us, and get things back to normal (or what passes as normal around here).
That being said, I do admire your coloring work on this picture. It seems to me like you are trying to emulate the coloring style used in the comic books while at the same time trying out your own method.

I can understand why Shadow looks pissed in this piece. Everyone in Sonic Adventure 2 has a mission in that Egyptian part of the game except for him. I wonder why SEGA left Shadow out of that part.

I was one of those who suggested Pyramid Cave in the journal... :'D
I really like how you managed to combine all the different sandy levels from SA2 into one image, it's admirable of you to do so

This looks amazing!
Your style of coloring and shading really fits the Sonic Universe. You could even be an artist for the comics!
I like how helpless Knuckles lookd, and Shadow looks really mad.
Just beautiful, makes my heart beat faster *v*
Congrats to your free time! i know how it is to have a lot to do.
Enjoy your digital drawigna s much as you can >v<

Ziggy, first and foremost I love how you combined so many important elements to the SA story (from one particular level/setting - aka the Desert Base just before the rocket took off for ARK via space) via collage.
The colors work well and the rendering is getting better and better!
The only thing that lacked fluidity and impact is the lineart in some parts. Some parts are out of perspective and out of proportion (e.g. Rogue's hands and leg, Tail's battle mech, Knuckles glowing knuckle-dusters, the Pyramid entrance next to Sonic via bg). Also some things look off-balanced like Sonic grinding and Eggman's mech jumping and leaning too far forward (Eggman himself is drawn really well though!)
There is also inconsistencies on detail like how your line art is solid for the important parts (aka characters and some BG elements) but very basic like the flame, smoke and lasers - which can be distracting visually.
Other than that everything is done well - and Shadow's illustration and rendering work is perfect. Also his positioning creates an composition to the overall collage - clever stuff happening here.
If you fix those areas that I've mentioned for a future project your illustration work will transform from good to amazing.
And one last tip - do some reading on atmospheric perspective if you haven't already - this bit of knowledge will definitely help accentuate your illustration too!
Good job dude! *thumbs up*

Also, wait, we can hashtag? Perfect...
Thanks very much! I completely agree with all of this. The perspective and proportions definitely need work. I did choose to make the lineart for the fire, smoke, and lasers a loose brush, but it does look a little clashy with the solid stuff everywhere else. I wish I could hire an inker so I could just pencil and colour haha!
Hmmm, atmospheric perspective. Sounds like a plan! Thanks again for the critique, it means a lot!

Ah yes, the ancient art of doodling in class. Arguably, it really does pay off for drawing practice, since you always do it!
Also, since it's that time of year, Merry Christmas!

First thought: Sonic's coloring helps him pop out from the collage, which is a good way to emphasis the main character.
Second thought: having Shadow off to the right on his own works well; it both bolsters his expression and shows his importance to the story.
Third thought: the visual effects on the Alien/Arabic script and the texture/shading on the Pharaoh Golem guy are gorgeous.
You did a great job throughout the entire piece, but those were the details that stuck out as particularly impressive.
