Description
Having not done any horror art for a long long time, I spent some time this weekend grabbing stock textures and putting together some dark... kinda grew organically, it's a bit sloppy and lacks my usual trademarks, but i kinda like thatit was FUN to make, and that's the main thing for me. If it's not an enjoyable process, I'm not making art, so this is a good distraction for me right now

Overall
Vision
Originality
Technique
Impact
I am studying journalism and so thought i could practice by playing the art critic! Fellow Deviants beware e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="
" title="
(Big Grin)" />
Seriously now, this is my first critique, and of course as every critique is my personal opinion.
I rated Vision and Originality at 4.5/5 as the concept is unique as far as i am concerned. Which shows vision, creativity and talent.
I really like the coloring and the atmosphere which gives me a feeling of terror and intrigue. So on Impact I'll give a full 5!
I think it has some room of improvement so on Technique i would give it a 4/5. Flames for instance could a have a more natural blending.
All in all I pretty like the final result. And I am astonished that none has bothered to review this amazing piece of art! Keep up the good work!

So true, I think if you don't enjoy what you are creating, it shows in your final work. I love the colours by the way

very dramatic an unique, incorporating fire adds a kind of dark horror theme like a melting wax candle on human skull....i dig it

I think its brilliant but I must agree the flames are a bit 'off-ish'. Wonderful work though. quite inspiring.

Interesting title, by the way. Well-executed use of tools, and the blurring does enhance the sense that the very air around the skulls is listless, yet unbearably hot. I find the indistinct scratching and symbols scattered in the image express a need to depart from the morbid scene and return to reality, yet the scrabbling inability of mankind to part with its darker tendencies.
Well done.

Very nice. I could see this as an album cover on a metal album or something along those lines. Not entirely sure abotu the flames either, might work better if it were candles and red wax is flowing down the skulls like blood... ... uhm. Where did that thought come form?

The flames on the skulls are a nice touch; it's the same effect made on a surface soaked with butane liquid, great rendering -- though the skull at the center and right background didn't feel that way (the foreground right skull got that well on the dot)
The blending of gears and cable lines / heavy rope with the barren gray landscape is also well done; detailing fissure cracks in the dry earth is alright; dread and emptiness all over
Plus notes seeing the light balanced on the foreground right skull; near the eye socket (the corners, not inside), that's a nice touch to show detail and depth -- I could assume the light inside the skull was caused by the flame dripping in on the work!

I really like the flames above the heads/skulls. They could be viewed as trapped spirits burning there for eternity.
Nice blending of the heads into the ground. I like the colours, adds atmosphere.

Very cool and dark idea! great textures and grungy colours to it. i do love the addition of the large cogs and gears. there's soemthing very eerie about the hollow sockets

love the faces and textures. some elements don't quite fit, but as a whole do? If that makes any sense, LOL!
