First half: She catches up with Polarstag after a long and weary day in the healers' den. But the news of Kaen's wound is grim. An infection that they could not stop? How could that happen? The unfairness of it all makes her clench her teeth. Anger towards the beasts that had caused this - they were gone, but still hurting wolves.

Second half, weeks later: She knows something is wrong when the Elk Totem comes rushing into the den-site, his expression distraught. His news could not be more terrible. Nadia follows him out to the meadow, where she collapses next to Kaen's still form and weeps for the friend she adored so much.
