PHASE TWO - AUSTRIA

Phase One of The White December had passed more smoothly that Seiger had dared hope for. That Andy had been kept out of harm's way was one feat that deserved to be acclaimed, but it was also how Alexa, yet again, had proven to be easy company. It was not the first time they had put 'getting along' to the test for extended periods of time - at the Sky and Sea event, at the Salar de Uyuni trail and most recently at the Roaring 20s event - but it was something he never quite depended on nor took for granted. How tedious a 4 week endurance adventure would get if you started getting on each other's nerves one week in... or worse, tensions could have increased with Zaaria present at the trail as well. But so far it had been smooth sailing. Alexa even seemed interested in Seiger's tall stories - maybe it was wishful thinking that she actually believed them to be true, but that was a smaller detail.

Now here in Austria, the terrain changed remarkably from the mostly flat expanses that had comprised the Hungarian landscapes. Here, the climbs could be steep, and Seiger's choice to bring the horse with the strongest engine to power up those mountain sides had proven wise. Igni even seemed to take a liking to the spotted mare, Ren, Alexa was riding - at least if the lack of pinned ears and bared teeth was any indication. In any case, noth horses seemed more than happy to indulge their riders' friendly rivalries insofar as racing was considered...
