Inspirations: Aoki Koji, Aoki Masaki, Aoki Manabu, Aoki Wakana - due to Ran’s admiration of courage, dedication, and standing for what you believe:
Aoki Koji - for saving the village despite having to sacrifice himself. She finds it unfortunate that he’s seemingly forgotten in history, but she thinks that makes him more interesting. She takes pride in the fact that her clan has been Akarikage, despite being nearly forgotten. It’s close to her heart.
- Aoki Masaki - for their dedication to meditation and finding enlightenment. While Ran would never be able to do it, she’s in awe at Masaki’s ability to keep at it. She wonders what sort of wisdom they’ve learned, what sorts of things they’ve seen.
Aoki Manabu - for sticking to his guns and for standing up for what he believed in. It’s hard to stand up against something you know so well, especially when no one else has. It is less, for Ran, about what Manabu was standing for so much as the principle. It takes courage and it takes a firm belief in something to even try. That is what she truly admires.
Aoki Wakana - she’s the first female clan leader and the youngest to boot, and that, to Ran, is something special and to aspire to, even if no one will brag about it. Though it was an abrupt transition, she looks up to Wakana for taking the lead with grace. She admires someone so young being able to do something so important.
Life Goals: Find enlightenment, be the sunshine in someone’s day
Personality:
Ran, in short, is a ray of sunshine. She takes “it’s not that deep” almost too seriously, but it’s certainly words that she lives by. She likes to live life being optimistic when she can be, looking on the bright side of things. She feels that life is precious, and incessant killing and fighting isn’t doing anyone any favors. To her, fighting can be necessary but it’s not usually a good path to finding the truth, or even enlightenment. No one wants to listen to the opposing side of an argument when they’re screaming - it makes you feel better, but the other person is just going to keep thinking that you’re wrong.
Ran enjoys some friendly competition, however, and tries to help others whenever possible, as she feels that she’d hope they would do the same for her. She’s a tiny bit lazy in the way that she enjoys favors, but it merely is a sort of “pay it forward” type deal. Should she need something, she hopes that doing good for someone else will ensure she doesn’t get stuck in a sticky situation. She’s very honest overall, and has no problem telling people how she feels in the politist way possible, but she’s no stranger to omission to save someone’s feelings. She doesn’t generally need to save face, however, and will tell people when she believes that they’re wrong.
She’s extremely conscious of people’s boundaries and comfort levels, but that never stops her from being friendly for the most part. If anything, it makes her try to be as welcoming as possible. Ran prefers to be respectful, even when someone may not deserve to be. She’s quite gullible and naive, in part due to her age but also the fact she has never seen true loss in her life. She’s not quite sure how she would react to it.
Backstory:
Ran has grown up without much of a hitch alongside her sister and cousin, Asagi. Asagi, though an extended relative, sort of became like an older sister to her, and acted as her protector while she was young. Growing up, Ran was always a little odd in that she was almost too free spirited - other Aoki didn’t really seem to mind all that much, but other clans surely did find it strange. The stares and comments never bothered her, though, and it was only years later that she realized that she was technically being bullied because of it. Asagi, however, got into fights over Ran, telling others to simply let people be who they are in peace. Looking back, Ran really appreciated it because she never felt ostracized. It helped her retain her sense of worth and self-value.
She became a shinobi, and presented interest in it, as a way to see more of the world. She doesn’t like to stay in one place as she would have to on the mountain, so going on missions seemed like the best option for her. She has never experienced true loss, however - whether it be a friend, or a loved one, or a comrade. She’s not really sure how she’d react, or whether or not she’d be okay. She realizes this may be a liability, but until it happens she’d rather not think about it.
Ran takes each day at a time, and while this has made her quite naive, she prefers to live life in this way. She’s also quite gullible, if only because she likes to take everything as face value unless proven otherwise. It’s gotten her into some sticky situations, where she believes someone or got involved in something she shouldn’t, but she continues to live as free-spirited as possible.Stats:
